The cycle of having only female contestants go home was broken last night on American Idol. The sexy Paul McDonald was sent packing. If you were a fan of the Nashville crooner’s raspy vocals, blinding smile and signature dance moves, take a look back at his journey on American Idol!
Paul remained very composed last night when Ryan Seacrest announced he would go and Stefano Langone would stay on American Idol. He flashed his pearly whites and sang “Maggie May” one last time for his fans.
Paul had his fair share of critics during his time on Idol. While some didn’t dig his “drunk uncle dancing” moves, others like Twilight star Peter Facinelli loved Paul’s whole vibe.
Okay, maybe it’s because Paul is rumored to be dating Peter’s Twilight co-star Nikki Reed, but he still had plenty of loving fans.
And we’ve always thought Paul looks a little bit like Bradley Cooper and we love him for it. Can you see a resemblance?

Looks like Paul McDonald is off the market (sigh). The Nashville crooner is busy doing press rounds today after his elimination on last night’s American Idol, and the singer with a swoon-worthy smile has already answered one of our most pressing questions — his relationship status with Twilight beauty Nikki Reed. So what’s the scoop?
“Me and Nikki Reed are dating. It’s officially true,” Paul told reporters during a press conference today, via Zap2it. “She’s super-cool, she’s super-smart and a really cool girl. We’ve been hanging out here and there, we’re both pretty busy, but it’s been fun so far.”
It all began when Paul and the rest of the Idol crew went to the Hollywood premiere of Red Riding Hood last month.
Nikki approached Paul on the carpet and gushed: “You’re amazing. I’m blushing, I should go.”
Paul responded, “Wow, thank you” and the two awkwardly hugged good-bye.
As soon as Nikki was out of earshot, Paul asked, “Was she a famous actress or something? I’d hang out with her!”
Well now that they are official, we bet he knows all about the magnitude of the Twilight phenomenon.
Peter Facinelli even Tweeted an endorsement for Paul, urging his followers to vote!
The duo reportedly kept in touch over Skype and now that Nikki is finished shooting Breaking Dawn in Vancouver, she is headed home to L.A. to see her man!

It’s very rare when a Twilight star will openly discuss their relationships off-screen, but Nikki Reed’s new man has happily announced he’s dating her! Recently eliminated American Idol contestant Paul McDonald has been making the media rounds confirming their relationship.
On Friday, Paul appeared on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno and shared what it felt like to be eliminated from American Idol.
“I woke up yesterday and I was like, ‘You know, I think this is about time for me to cruise out,’ ” Paul told Jay Leno. “I’ve had a good run. I felt like I did what I needed to do but for some reason I felt like, ‘Tonight’s the night.’”
But Paul’s love life has also been a big topic of conversation since he’s confirmed that he’s dating Twilight star Nikki!
Paul joked he’s been dating Nikki for “like, three years.”

The Nashville crooner with a swoon-worthy smile captivated America with his raspy rock vocals and tender tone, so it’s no surprise that he caught the eye of actress Nikki Reed. Paul gushed to OK! about his fledgling relationship with the Twilight beauty.
“We actually met on TV,” he said of the video documenting the couple’s first encounter, at the Red Riding Hood premiere. “That’s where we actually met. It was like, ‘Oh, great to meet you.’ ”
Paul confirmed that at the time he had no idea who Nikki was, something he was later embarrassed about.
“I didn’t realize who she was, so I felt bad,” he told OK!. “I sent her a message saying, ‘I didn’t realize you were a big-time actress. I’m so sorry. It was great to hang out with you.’ And then we started to hang out after that. She’s super cool.”
Not only is she “super cool,” but Nikki is also very supportive of Paul branching out from Idol and pursuing his own path.
“Nikki’s great. She’s supportive of me being creative and that kind of stuff. She’s excited about what’s going to come. I have been writing a bunch of material, and she’s a fan.”
Now Paul needs to become a fan of Twilight!

Paul McDonald stopped by the OK! NYC offices this week to talk about his American Idol experience and where his career is headed. We had to ask about Nikki Reed, and the Nashville stud didn’t have enough good things to say about his new leading lady. He also admitted he has never read Twilight or seen the movies (blasphemous, we know), but that’s all about to change.
“I have not read any of the books or watched any of the movies,” Paul revealed to OK! of the hit franchise, in which his girlfriend stars. “But I guess I am a Twilight fan because I’m dating Nikki. I told her I’d watch whenever she wants me to watch them.”
How about bringing his raspy vocals and tender tone to the Breaking Dawn soundtrack?
“I would love that,” he said excitedly.
Now that he has the Nikki connection, does he have an “in”?
“Maybe so,” Paul shared. “A bunch of killer bands take part. I’m a fan of a bunch of up-and-coming new bands. I remember Band of Skulls got on the last one. It’s a cool thing to kind of get out younger bands.”
Band of Skulls was featured on the New Moon soundtrack along with Radiohead and Muse.
“Any kind of opportunity like that would be great,” he added.
Nikki’s co-star Peter Facinelli endorsed Paul on Twiiiiiitter, urging his 1.8 million followers to vote for the Nashville crooner.
And Paul was flattered.
“I have not met him, but Peter’s a cool dude,” he told OK!. “He’s excited about some stuff we might be doing.”
So what are they collaborating on? Peter’s new project Loosies — an independent film he wrote, produced and stars in.
The Nurse Jackie star has enlisted Paul to do the soundtrack for the film!
“I’m super pumped about working with @peterfacinelli on his new movie ‘Loosies’ ” Paul Tweeeeeeeeted.
“I was telling Nikki I was looking for music for my movie,” Peter told MTV News, ”and she said, ‘You should look though Paul’s stuff.’ She was a big fan of his, I heard, and I thought it really worked for my movie, so I played some tracks over it, where we had temp tracks, and it just all worked. So I reached out to Paul, I sent him the movie, and he enjoyed it a lot, and he said he wanted to be a part of it, so I was stoked.”
Peter’s film is centered on a pickpocket in New York who’s “caught up in a fast-paced, hustlin’ lifestyle, until he is confronted by a woman with whom he had a one-night stand, who is now pregnant.”
