It seems like the Suns’ system has allowed your game to flourish. Talk about that a little bit. Has it been the system, coaching, your maturity?
Boris Diaw: It’s been a lot of different things. Sure, the system and coaches helped, but it’s also nice to play along side the NBA MVP, Steve Nash and other players like Shawn Marion. It’s obviously easier to play with these conditions. The coach trusted me and that it helped my confidence a lot.
EA has recruited you to do motion capture for NBA Live 07. Talk a bit about the entire experience.
Boris Diaw: It’s great. I’m really happy that they asked me to do this. I can’t wait to see my face in the next video game. It’s a great experience – really fun to do. It’ll be nice to see the results.
Are you doing motion capture just for your in-game player or are you being asked to do motions for other NBA pros as well?
Boris Diaw: I’m pretty sure it’s just going to be for my moves. I’m going to stay pretty natural and just focus on how I play.
You’ve no doubt played as yourself in NBA Live 06. What aspects did the development team get right? Where do you think they were off?
Boris Diaw: (laughs) In the last game I was playing for Atlanta, so I didn’t have that many skills. Overall, I think they did really good and it gets better and better each year.
Gaming obviously has a huge impact around the world, particularly in North America and Japan. Talk about your exposure to gaming in France – where you a big gamer growing up?
Boris Diaw: Yeah, of course. I’ve always been playing video games, including games like NBA Live and NBA Street. When you have time off, even now, I keep playing.
Some players measure their career success by accomplishments like All-Star selections, point totals, etc. When your career is done, you’ll view it as a success if…
Boris Diaw: I win the NBA Championship. Sure, I want to win titles with the national team, get gold medals – things like that. I really want that NBA title.
