【Danny Gokey】【演唱会文录】Odawa Casino Resort演唱会

So what made me decide to go? Well, it all started when Danny was announced to be one of the openers of the Taylor Swift tour, with a total of 11 shows. Well, of course, my first inclination was “I’m going to one of those shows!” but then in talking to several other fans about promoting Danny amongst Taylor’s fans, I started tweeting some of her fans about Danny. One fan in particular is a real sweetheart (@laurenflynn04). She is a huge Taylor fan and I sent her to Danny’s website to listen to his cd and she loved him. (She was at Taylor’s show last night as a matter of fact, but I’m getting a little ahead of myself). Anyway, she loved Danny’s songs and I told her she should get a m&g to meet him when she sees Taylor. However, at the time, I forgot how to read and had to tell her I had made a mistake. He wasn’t opening for her that night, he had his own show.
That’s how it started. The day I realized my mistake, on a lark, I went to the casino website to look up tickets for the show. Purely on a whim, I clicked “best available” for one person. Voila! A first row seat was available. In looking at the venue map, it looked like an awesome seat (and it was!). Almost center stage a little to the right (on Matt’s side). So, what did I do? I bought the ticket. I couldn’t pass it up. Now, I still wasn’t planning on going. I rationalized it this way…even if I don’t go, I’m contributing to the sellout of the show to help Danny. I’ve done it before, bought a ticket to a show and not gone, and I’ll probably do it again.


So, I bought the ticket, told my partner-in-crime (you know who you are. lol) about it and pretty much forgot about it. Until….the day the ticket came in the mail. That’s when it got real. I thought to myself. I saw him in April and May, I’d love to see him in June. March was not a happy month for me, it being Danny-less, so I didn’t want to let June die the same way. Plus, I realized June 25th is a year almost to the date after his show at the Glass Cactus in Grapevine, TX, so I wanted to commemorate that. So I started really thinking about it. I don’t remember what day it was but it wasn’t too much sooner than 2-4 weeks before the show. I started looking up airfare, which was too high at first, but I said, if I’m meant to go, the airfare will go down.
It did, obviously, so the trip was on.
The week leading up to the show was long and tedious. Maybe it was because of my anticipation but I needed this weekend after the week of calls I had. (I have a feeling this upcoming week is going to be torture with the anticipation of Summerfest approaching but again, I’m getting ahead).


The big day arrives. When I got to the airport at DFW, it was a madhouse. Summertime has officially arrived with all the families going on vacation. And was Delta prepared? Not in the slightest. When I got there, there was no one at the gate except a crowd of confused passengers and flight crews. No one knew what was going on. I was scheduled to take off at 7:30am but we didn’t start boarding till 7:20 plus they were asking for 8 volunteers to give up their seat! Needless to say, we were late taking off. Which meant…….I missed my connection in Detroit to Pellston Regional Airport. Eeek! I had to find alternative transportation because the next flight wasn’t until 8pm when Danny went on stage.
Finally I found a car service that would take me to Petoskey but it would be a long drive. Luckily, I had a driver who liked music because to calm my nerves and regain my peace of mind, I played Danny, a lot. When I first started the music, the driver was quiet. I eventually told him who I was listening to and where Danny was playing that night. His smile was one of recognition. He knew who Danny was and had liked him on Idol. He loved Danny’s voice, thought it was beautiful and loved how Danny sang from his heart. Yay!! My day was starting to look up! Another Danny fan was found. Of course I played him the new single “Secondhand Heart” (because promoting Danny is a never-ending job) and he loved it.


So the drive was beautiful. It was a gorgeous day in Michigan and I couldn’t help but chuckle to myself that Danny had actually brought nice weather for a show. LOL.
Anyway, as 6:00 approached, I started getting nervous. Hmmm, was I gonna make it? I got to my hotel at 6:20pm and took the quickest shower in the history of the world and caught the casino shuttle to the casino. Luckily, when I got there at 6:55pm, the m&g hadn’t yet started. It was due to start at 7:15pm. Whew!


When they took us in, while chatting with a couple of fans from faebook and twiter, I saw Matt come out. He waved to me while he was talking to someone else and then came over to me and gave me the biggest hug. What a sweetheart he is. I was wearing a necklace I got from his wife’s jewelry collection on Stella & Dot and asked him to thank her for me. I loved it. Anyway, I noticed he had gotten a haircut, which he added he didn’t like because he said it uneven on one side. Oh well, hair will grow back. He’s still cute.


We also talked a little about the radio tour. No news to report there. No dates were given. They aren’t being made public.
After the m&g, I went to my seat to get ready for the show. My seat was perfect. Not completely center where the mic would be obstructing Danny’s face a lot, just a little bit off center, in the middle of him and Matt. I could see the whole band perfectly. Well, almost perfectly. I never can get a good pic of Mike behind those massive drums but I got one or two.
One of the radio dj’s came on to welcome us and throw out station tshirts. I didn’t write down the station and don’t remember at the moment. Oh, and I forgot to mention the venue layout. I had been keeping tabs on ticket sales by going to the website to look at what was available in each of the sections. Ticket sales seemed to be decent as one section was sold out, and the others had seats available in the last 2 rows in those sections. The show was going to do well in sales with at least a near sellout. Before the m&g, I was talking to one of the ladies who was escorting us in, and asked her how many the room held. She didn’t know the exact number but said it was around 800-1000. She wasn’t able to tell me much more because she was called away at that moment. But like I said before, ticket sales seemed to be going pretty good every time I checked the website.


Back to the set list, before I lost it, I did count the songs and there was a whopping 16 songs on it (sorry, Jan. I miscounted when I answered your question last night. It was late. I didn’t see anything eliminated to include SH. All ten songs on the CD plus LIAH, T.R.O.U.B.L.E., Prayer, ROS, Back at 1 and of course the afore-mentioned SH. Unless there’s a song I’m forgetting (I really wish I had that set list now), I think that’s all there was. I was disappointed that he didn’t do “Gimme a Kiss” only because I do love it. I hope it is still on the new CD even if it is no longer going to be the first single.
After the show, Danny did his usual signing. Instead of getting in line, I went to buy a new CD because like I told Matt, I have to because I don’t have a copy of my own. (*insert sarcasm here*). Oh, and here’s a tidbit from Matt. He thinks there’s new shirt(s) coming. Yay!! New Danny merch for us to buy!
I got in the line and took some pics as I got a little closer. Oh, about the pics. There would have been more but I did a massive fail when I forgot to upload some pics from the last 2 events I went to (family related) and didn’t delete them so as I was recording CNT, the camera ran out of memory! I only got more pics when I quickly deleted some extra pics that I didn’t need.


When I got to the front, I had Danny sign my new CD and my now-missing set list (*sniff*) and talked to him about Summerfest and reminded him we need to set up a fan club for him. I think he needed one during CMA fest. He agreed and told me they’re holding off for now for various reasons. But I’ll keep asking because I think it’s something he needs to join all of his fans together….here and abroad, because while fans here can meet him, through m&g’s, his fans abroad can’t, until he goes over there so they need something to keep being invested in him.
I then saw Brandon, Justin and the new bassist Josh Dean (or Deen?) over where Matt was so I went and talked to them. I introduced myself to Josh and told him “you’ll be seeing me a lot”. I figured he could use the warning.   LOL! He is a cool guy. I think you’ll like him. He’s just as goofy and loveable as the others are so he fits in real well. (see the pic of Matt and Josh)
So there you have it, my latest Danny adventure and by the looks of the length of this post, it was quite the adventure and to think it all started because I was promoting Danny to get him new fans. That’s the morale of this story. Do good things and good things come back to you. Or something like that. ;-)
