FABIO CAPELLO insists that he will resurrect David Beckham’s career following his World Cup misery. 

Becks, 31, has hit rock-bottom after resigning as captain in the wake of England’s quarter-final penalty defeat by Portugal. 

But new Real Madrid boss Capello has vowed to lift Beckham and said: “I thought Beckham had a good World Cup and it was unfortunate what happened to England. 

“It was a pity he got injured and it’s understandable that he was hurt by what happened afterwards. 

“But Beckham is still a great player. I’m looking forward to working with him — he’s an important player for Real Madrid.” 

Beckham is currently crocked with knee and Achilles trouble and is not due back for pre-season training until July 21.

Beckham resigned last weekend after the World Cup and five years as England skipper. But his ‘Beckham 7’ England shirt remains in high demand at online sports store Kitbag.com. 

Kitbag marketing manager Nicola Lightburn said: ‘Standing down as England captain definitely hasn’t dampened David Beckham’s popularity with supporters.
