A Brief Introduction
 Love may not be a delightful experience. The lovers can’t always treat each other kindly. As we all know, a lot of lovers cannot get together simply because of the tension from society——actually the customs.
 In 《Wuthering Heights》, what made a gap between the two lovers is from themselves. The figures in the story, as well as in the true world, have their own flaws. It is their arrogates, selfish that made them fell into the emotional affairs. Therefore, they hardly decide their lives. So love is often beaten by mentioned above, ending up disasters.
Figures
Catherine
She is thought to be a beauty with elegant behaviors and attractive skins. Born in a rich family, she has every right to seek an outstanding companion. The arrival of Heathcliff makes a big difference to her life. In the childhood, they are best friends. As time goes by, without warning, they fall into love. However, Catherine’s family can hardly accept the sort of man, for he is an orphan who has not received a good education. He is rude. At the same time, Edgar, coming from a rich family, joins the love affair. Finally, fame and wealth wins over love, Catherine gets married to Edgar.
Heathcliff is deeply hurt. He swears that he will pay all back. On the other hand, Catherine is suffering from the accusing of her boyfriend. Each time she fells asleep, she is drowned with his words. Gradually, she becomes weaker and weaker. At last, she passes away. She says that she is going to a world that beyond all of them.
Heathcliff
He is a gipsy. As is mentioned above, he is an orphan. He is rescued by the Earnshaw family. At first he is a kind-hearted and optimistic person. When it comes to the marriage of his lover, he is completely destroyed. An evil plan for revenge hit him. He pretends he is fond of Isabella, the sister of Edgar, and gets married to her. Only by this means can he hesitate a big fortune from Edgar. Then he treats her wife badly. Not bearing the fists and rude words, Isabella runs away from home, expecting a child. While doing this, Catherine’s death struck him, making him much crazier. Depressed and mad as he is, he continues his plan. Until one day he finds himself a total devil, not only giving a deep hurt to his lover’s family, but also his own——for his son, the only relative in the world, is dead. In a stormy evening, he goes to Catherine’s grave and digs it out. It is incredible for him to open the coffin and disturb the dead. After doing this, all the way he went home. In the next several days he eats nothing and then dies. According to his will, the Wuthering Heights is back to the owner. And he is buried just next to Catherine’s gravestone.
Own Idea
To the story, no one can draw an accurate conclusion. At least I can’t. So it is just my ideas about the story.
In my opinion, the tragedy is mainly resulting from society. For one person, he cannot live out of community. Heathcliff is an orphan after all. He has no wealth and no fame. It is most likely that Catherine will be looked down upon if she is married to Heathcliff. In that time upper class has little relationship with lower class. It is not rational to say that the result has nothing to do with society.
Despite their death, it is not an absolute tragedy. At least they have their own choice for life, though it is a bitter choice, they have had experienced life. That is enough. Maybe the Pearly Gate is open for both of them. Everyone is equal in the sight of God.
