序章
Prologue: A Brief History of the Galaxy
In the year 2801 A.D., the central government moved from the third planet Earth of the Solar System to the second planet Theoria of the star system Alpha Taurus. Declaring the founding of the Galactic Federation, the humans changed the calendar to Space Year One, starting to explore endlessly toward the center and borders of the Milky Way galaxy. However, as time went on, the most obvious trait of the era became the rekindling of warfare and the breaking down of order, causing a hiatus in the outward developments; great energy was just hidden below the surface, full in its potential for explosion.
The three ultimate beings that enabled the humans to travel between stars--second dimension jump navigation, gravity control, and inertia control--underwent rapid developments. The humans, wishing to exploring the unknown horizon, navigated space ships toward the other side of the sea of stars.
"Forward! Ever so forward!" This was the mutually shared language of people in that era.
All human beings were in a vivacious period in their life. People were focused determined, and enthusiastic; even when they faced troubles, they would not indulge in a sickly mood, blaming it on fate instead of doing something about it. Their bodies were full of positive energy; maybe all of them could be said to hopelessly optimistic.
This was the Golden Age, filled with an air of freshness and progression.
However, several small things made the era imperfect, the first of them space pirates. In the 2700's, when Earth and the Lupus Colony fought for the control of the human society, they often used privateers to disrupt their enemy's economy, and the pirates was the mutant child of this war tactic. Some of them, of course, were only freedom-loving misfits, and the confrontations between them and the Federation troops would often become the themes of 3D-TV.
On the other hand, these things were infrequent, most pirates only crime organizations seeking illegal profits, connected with amoral, decadent politicians or entrepreneurs. However, for those who lived in frontier planets, they were feared like a plague. In the border routes where pirates appeared frequently, less space ships would travel nearby; so not only was it difficult to supply materials, the price of goods that arrived would also rise dramatically, because, other than the original prices, there would also be a significant security expenditure. The serious nature of this problem was not to be ignored; otherwise, when the dissatisfaction and insecurity of the victims increased to a certain level, they would begin to distrust the ruling ability of the Federation government, finally undermining the willingness of people to settle in frontier planets.
Space Year 106, Galactic Federation concentrated its force to sweep out all the space pirates. Admiral M. Sufrin and C. Wood were entrusted the mission, and it was pretty much finished after two years. This search-and-destroy mission was not easy, as Admiral Wood in his memoir had written:
