The music industry in Singapore had been well established since the early 80s when young and enthusiastic songwriters and singers like Liang Wenfoo, Eric Moo and Chen Jia Ming started writing their own songs. They were all in their teens then and their compositions eventually became a great influence in the local music scene and is known as Xinyao. In recent years, Singapore singers and songwriters have also gone to other countries like Taiwan and Hong Kong to promote their songs. Many local artistes received very good response abroad and established their foothold as popular singers and songwriters in the Chinese music scene.

Liang Wen Fu
Liang Wen Fu is a very outstanding and talented composer. Through the years, he has indeed written many nice songs. And many of his songs written during the xinyao era are reflections of the Singaporean lifestyle; hilights of very real feelings and thoughts. And it is exactly these qualities in his songs that touch our hearts. Moreover, his achievements do not stop there. Till today, he continues his contribution to the local music scene as an active composer. Of course, apart from writing songs, his achievements in Chinese literary works are equally noteworthy. He also translated Kit Chan's poetry collections, which she wrote in English, into Chinese.
2001, Dr Liang Wen Fu released a book containing his collection of essays 散文@文福. Personally I have also bought and read the book. It is a collection of past works that Dr Liang Wen Fu has published in newspapers and magazines. I find it a real joy to read these essays. Most of the essays have very deep insights into life.
A few of the local singers from the 80s xinyao were featured on Music Happening. Hong Shao Xuan, who was one of the invited guest artistes, occassionally performs at Musicdreamer (ai qin hai). There was a segment which featured works by Dr Liang Wen Fu. These songs certainly brought back good old memories for many including myself. Pan Ying's voice is still as lovely as before. I really like her song "Rang Ye Qing Qing Luo Xia" written by Liang Wen Fu. It was one of my favourite songs when I was in primary school.

Dick Lee
Dick Lee is another local musician whose creativity always brings pleasant surprises. He has been the music director for background music in many films like 《金 枝 玉 叶》、《玻 璃 之 城》 etc. I especially like one particular song 《追》from 《金 枝 玉 叶》which was composed by Dick Lee.

Chen Jia Ming
Chen Jiaming is one of the songwriter/lyricists whom I personally like alot. Though he has not been too active in the music scene lately, he is still one of the lyricists whom I admire. He will certainly be remembered as the producer who led Mavis Hee to stardom at one point of time. My favourite piece of lyrics written by him is《一 份 真》. It is simple yet so touching.
