它由俄勒冈州立大学繁殖项目组在1956年培育而成，由Fuggle和俄国酒花Serebrianka杂交而来，1972正式推向市场，当年它的种植面积就达到全美酒花种植面积的13.3%。它也是美国农业部农业研究局繁育项目培育成功的第一个以商业利益为目的的酒花品种。

经美国加州地区众多精酿啤酒屋试验，证明该酒花用于生产淡色艾尔啤酒时能贡献非常浓郁的的柑橘香和葡萄柚香。

沿袭了Centennial 和 Columbus的命名方式，这三种酒花统称为“3Cs。这三种酒花可以相互替代，但是除卡斯卡特之外的两种酒花α-酸含量稍高一些。|

Cascade is an aroma hop that was developed by the U.S.D.A.breeding program in Oregon and released in 1972. It has amedium strength aroma that provides a unique floral/spicycharacter with well balanced bittering potential.
