Montreal Imapact forward Marco Di Vaio was acquitted by the Italian Football Federation (FI***isciplinary Committee after the suspicion of match fixing. Di Vaio's former club, Bologna, was fined 30,000 euros.
The scandal has been dubbed Scommessopoli and involves several high-profile names in the Italian Serie A. Juventus coach Antonio Conte was banned for 10 months for failing to report two incidents of match fixing while he was coaching Siena in Serie B.
Lecce and Grosseto were relegated from Serie B. Grosseto chairman Piero Camilli and Lecce president Giovanni Semeraro were banned from soccer-related activities for five years each. All appeals will be heard Aug. 20.
Aside from Di Vaio, the other entities named innocent were Leonardo Bonucci, Simone Pepe, Salvatore Masiello, Daniele Padelli, Giuseppe Vives and Udinese.
After missing the 2-0 win over the Philadelphia Union to attend hearings, Di Vaio will return to Montreal. Up next is a trip to play New England Revolution.
