Today is the 16 year anniversary of Outkast's classic sophomore album, ATLiens. Big Boi and André 3000's first album, Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik, may have established them as stars and proved that the South had something to say (as an indignant Three Stacks would declare at the 1995 Source Awards), but it was their second album that truly showcased the scope of their talent.
ATLiens isn't just a classic—you could argue that every single Outkast album is a classic—it was an ambitious adventure into deep space that highlighted the group's eccentricities rather than shield them away. It featured some of the group's best songs to date including "Two Dope Boyz (In a Cadillac)" and the timeless "Elevators." It was the evolution of Outkast from Southern playas to out-of-this-world artists.
We hooked up with UpNorthTrips to celebrate the anniversary of the album with some vintage photos of Sir Lucious Left Foot and André 3K from the mid-to-late '90s. Continue on and watch them grow up all over again.
