[LA Times] Toronto International Film Festival: ‘Imogene’ makers hope for redemption Robert Pulcini and Shari Springer Berman started well with ‘American Splendor’ but ran into trouble with ‘Nanny Diaries’ and ‘Extra Man.’ With a cast that includes Kristen Wiig, Annette Bening and Matt Dillon, the pair think they have a winning formula.Robert Pulcini and Shari Springer Berman’s debut feature, the offbeat comic book adaptation “American Splendor,” was greeted with so much success when it came out in 2003 that the filmmaking duo couldn’t imagine things going any other way.“We had this level of delusion that a lot of first-time filmmakers have but maybe multiplied because of the reception,” Pulcini said of the Paul Giamatti movie, which HBO’s film division allowed them to make with little interference and which went on to become an Oscar nominee and art house hit. “We thought, ‘It’s always going to be this easy.’” 【这不是全部内容,我只是象征性一贴】
Toronto: Domestic buyers circle embarrassment of riches So what films in Toronto are top of buyers’ lists? A crowded Friday (7) kicks off with afternoon public screenings of Robert Pulcini’s comedy Imogene (pictured) starring Kristen Wiig (UTA represents North American rights and Voltage Pictures sells international) and The Place Beyond The Pines (WME-CAA; Sierra/Affinity), boasting a reunion between Ryan Gosling and his Blue Valentine director Derek Cianfrance. 【这不是全部内容,我只是象征性一贴】

Toronto 2012: 25 Films We're Looking Forward To at TIFF 截取imogene部分: “Imogene” Kristin Wiig managed a well-deserved Oscar nomination earlier this year for co-writing “Bridesmaids,” the film that propelled her into the A-list and paved the way for her to leave “Saturday Night Live” and focus her career on film full-time. While the first test of that trajectory comes with “American Splendor” directors Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini’s new film “Imogene,” which world premieres at the festival. The film sees Wiig star as a playwright who stages a suicide in an attempt to win back her ex (Matt Dillon), only to wind up in the custody of her gambling-addict mother (Annette Bening).
5 Films That Could Start Distributor Bidding Wars At TIFF “Imogene” After the monumental success of “Bridesmaids,” pretty much everyone in town wanted to work withKristen Wiig, but her final year on “Saturday Night Live” meant that she only had a limited amount of time to make movies (less of an issue now; she left the show in May, and has been filming Ben Stiller’s “The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty“ ever since). But the one she used her time on, in the end, was something of a passion project — “Imogene,” which follows a playwright who fakes a suicide to get her ex-boyfriend’s attention, and is forced her to move in with her mother. Penned by relative newcomer Michelle Morgan, and directed by “American Splendor” duo Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini, it seems to be significantly darker than “Bridesmaids,” and they’ve landed something of a coup with the presence of Annette Bening as Wiig’s mother, with Matt Dillon, “Glee” star Darren Criss, Nathan Corddry and Natasha Lyonne making up the rest of the eclectic cast. There’s a good premise here, and the team-up of Bening and Wiig alone should make it a highly attractive prospect for distributors. One possible stumbling block — last year’s TIFF entry “Friends With Kids,” which reunited most of the “Bridesmaids” cast, did fairly decently, but didn’t set the world alight with a $7 million gross. Is that the ceiling on this? Or could an enterprising company take it higher?
New Photos: Kristen Wiig In 'Imogene,' Elle Fanning In 'Ginger & Rosa,' 'At Any Price' & More Maybe we should call it Annette Bening day. The actress features in two new photos from two films arriving on the film festival circuit. First up is “Imogene” which is a starring vehicle for Kristen Wiig, developed by the SNL comedienne before she took off in “Bridesmaids.” Directed by Robert Pulcini and Shari Springer Berman (“American Splendor”), the picture centers on a washed-up playwright (Wiig) who, after faking her own suicide as a ploy to get her ex-boyfriend’s attention, winds up remanded to the custody of her wackily dysfunctional family. The picture also co-stars Bening, as you can see by the photo, Matt Dillon and “Glee” star Darren Criss. Written by Wiig’s longtime pal Michelle Morgan, “Imogene” has its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival on Friday, September 7th. [s] 新出Wiig姐跟Bening阿姨剧照一张
