We’re still hammering away at my forthcoming mainstream film #KissingDarkness.
It’s been really interesting working on KD because it’s one of those projects where you get a chance to learn for yourself how badly you want to become an actor. My philosophy when it comes to mainstream (non adult work) is to take whatever comes my way and not look back. You can rest on your laurels waiting for the big one or the best one to come your way but that’s all you’ll ever be doing; waiting. Work is work and each day on set, any set, helps prepare me for what could come next. Spend your time waiting for a certain kind of role, a certain kind of movie, and you could find yourself ill-prepared for the ones that matter most.

Kissing Darkness is a gay vampire film. There, I said it. I admit, it’s another vampire movie. A group of friends skip Los Angeles Pride and take up lodging in their “token” straight friend’s cabin for the weekend. They break out an Oaija board and inadvertently awaken a slumbering demon. One by one she gives each of them the kiss of death and they pass it on to one another. While the vampire motif is part of it, it’s primarily a possession type film. Fewer fangs; more scrapes, bruises, and pale make up with darkened eyes.
We’ve been filming long hours each day including a stint of filming 4 days in Crestline, California outside of Big Bear. One shoot day went from afternoon clear into the wee hours of the morning. We didn’t call it “good” until 5 AM. Obviously this isn’t a union film and one of the things that is holding up progression is the lack of crew and line producer. Films have been made with far less! Despite our scant working resources all of the footage is coming out exquisitely.
We’ve been filming off and on throughout September and still have a day or two left. We’re actually still trying to cast three victim roles where my character stumbles upon a scene in which he finds a pair of sisters and their male lover have been strung up and disemboweled. Shortly there after he becomes the first to become “infected” by the villain, Malice Valeria and her wicked strain. We plan on having it edited and ready by Halloween! While it is a vampire film on the surface, there’s a truly original theme and sub plot from other vampire movies that makes the entire film far more twisted and sick than it appears at first glance.
Immediately after Halloween I go into production for “Truth” – a project extra special to me because not only am I the lead, I’m producing the film and I’m a 50-50 partner on the project. It employs so much of my life experiences, emotions and perspectives for the first time ever. I’m getting a chance to truly bring depth and substance to a mainstream film for the first time ever. Plus, we wrote in a segment with horses!
You’ve noticed I’ve been posting quite a bit about how we can all get involved with getting “Truth” made. We had an Indie Go Go campaign that, on paper, raised “Truth” $12,838 (every dime goes to making the movie and not a penny goes to me or my partners). Our Indie Go Go Campaign also brought us 3 large investors who have issued contributions outside of Indie Go Go because their large sums have officially made them producers on the project. People are taking notice and they want to see this film!
