DNC Indonesia team to meet Zidane

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The 2007 Danone Nations Club (DNC) Team, which just came back from Lyon, France, for the 10-12-year-old kid football competition, is scheduled to meet Zinedine Zidane in Sukabumi, on Friday.

Zinedine Zidane, a noted world soccer player, is a world envoy for Danone programs for children, according Brand Director of Danone Aqua Indonesia Didi Nugrahadi.

"His present here will encourage the three elements of `Agua for Indonesian Children Program` aimed at improving the welfare of children," he said.

Prior to the meeting with DNC Team, Zinedine Zidane of France is scheduled to meet President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono at the State Palace on Friday, presidential spokesman Dino Patti Djalal said here on Thursday.

"Tomorrow (July 6), Zidane will meet with the president. He (Zidane) has a lot of fans in Indonesia, and the president is one of them," the presidential spokesman said.

Members of the under-13 years old team of the All Indonesia Football Association (PSSI) who had shown good achievements of late would also be invited to the palace event on Friday.

The agenda of the meeting with the president would not be specific or serious as it was "just to have friendly chats and fun," he added.

He added that Zidane would show his expertise in playing the `round leather` on the palace`s premises. "Just for fun he will show how to kick a ball," he said.

Zinedine Zidane is on a visit to Indonesia from July 6 to 8, 2007.

French football legend Zinedine Zidane paid a courtesy visit to Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in the state palace on Friday as part of his tour in an attempt to promote sport among children. Wearing a traditional Batik top and jeans, the three-time World Footballer of the Year, accompanied by members of Indonesia's under-13 team, juggled a ball in front of the president.

"It's my first visit to Indonesia, and I'm pleased to be here," Zidane told Yudhoyono.

"I do hope your visit will increase your understanding about Indonesia," Yudhoyono replied.

The 35-year-old footballer is scheduled to attend an international tournament for children sponsored by French food manufacturer Danone during his July 6-8 visit.

The trip coincides with the start of the Asian Cup, which Indonesia is co-hosting, on July 7.

President receives French soccer star Zidane

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Zinedine Zidane, the noted world soccer player from France, presented President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono with a French football team T-shirt bearing the number 10 and his signature when he was received by the Indonesian leader at the presidential palace here on Friday.

The President on the occasion was accompanied by First Lady Ani Yudhoyono, Youth and Sports Minister Adhyaksa Dault, his son Eddy Baskoro and daughter-in-law Anissa Pohan who is a TV sports presenter.

Zidane, who is popularly known as Zizzou, on the occasion also gave three footballs with his signatures on them to the Indonesian junior soccer team which recently participated in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U-13 Football Festival in Malaysia.

The top French football player, who is on a visit to Indonesia from July 6 to 8, told the President he was happy to be in Indonesia as her friendly people loved football.

Zizzou was also optimistic that Indonesia`s young football players would have a bright future. He hoped the country`s schoolboy football team would win the Danone Cup.

President Yudhoyono told Zidane he was happy Zindane was visiting Indonesia as the French football star had a lot of fans here. The head of state expressed hope that the presence of Zidane in this country could help encourage and motivate Indonesian athletes, especially football payers, to perform better.

After holding a brief talk, President Yudhoyono and Zidane went to the palace`s front yard where the latter demonstrated some of his football playing skills.

Zidane`s presence at the presidential palace also attracted the attention of many journalists. The number of journalists covering the meeting between Yudhoyono and Zidane in the palace was around 200 , or about double the number on normal days.

Presidential spokesman Dino Pattidjalal was amazed to see the presence of so many journalists in the palace. Some of them asked for Zidane`s signature and posed for pictures with the French football champion.

Zinedine Zidane kicks a ball around with Indonesian president

French soccer legend Zinedine Zidane kicked a ball around with Indonesia's president Friday on the manicured lawns of the state palace as hundreds of fans jostled to catch get a glimpse.

Zidane, in the country to promote a French food company, is popular in Indonesia where many fans have followed the performances of a fellow Muslim.

"You are a great man," President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono told Zidane after juggling a ball with him. "You are very famous here in Indonesia, you have a lot of fans who admire you."

Many palace workers brought their children along to see Zidane, creating a party atmosphere at the normally stuffy palace.

The three-time FIFA World Player of the Year is scheduled to hold coaching clinics with young children and open a new dairy facility during his two day stay in the country.
