本剧剧名本身是Suburgatory， 就是个合成词，suburban在美国文化中指富人高档社区，有点世外桃源的意思，而且片中布景的风格和明丽的色彩也似乎是在表达这些（因为这并不是一个真实存在的小镇的景象，因为在新英格兰地区的郊县，不可能在感恩节还那么缓和而阳光明媚，当然你可以说是全球变暖，尽管在S1E22里邮箱上的对应地区邮政代码，对应是纽约北部纽约州的一个小镇南Westchester，(西chester对应西Chatswin），虽然S1E13里George输入的邮政编码则是纽约州New Rochelle镇的代码）而pugatory是炼狱的意思，大家可以去看但丁的神曲就知道是啥意思，所以直接翻译成监狱是不对的,没有把其后的文化背景翻出来。
