There will not be a mid-term exam, but you will have to write a paper. Two choices:
1. You must write about a film you have seen that is an adaptation of a book you have read. You should talk about any differences between the book and the film, and why you think the changes were made. You should also say whether you like the book or the film best.
You should write between 150 and 200 words.
Some books were written after the film – you can’t do one of those.
But there is one other rule:
You cannot write about Harry Potter, or the Twilight/vampire movies, Why? Because if I let you do that almost everyone will do it and it will drive me crazy. More importantly, the books are not good literature. Also, you cannot write about any of the films or books on this course.
OR
2. You should write about 150 words about whether you think reading a book or going to see a movie is better.
What is the difference between reading a book and watching a movie? Which one lets you use your imagination more? You should tell me what you think, and why you think it. If you can give some examples of books or movies you have enjoyed, and why you enjoyed them, that will be good. Examples of things you have not enjoyed will also be good. Do not use books or films we are studying on the course.
And finally ….
Don’t steal stuff off the internet!
I will know.
And you will have to do another paper.
