1.Asking for directions
Passenger: Excuse me, I am lost. Would you happen to know where I can find the police station?
Passerby: Yes, I do
Passenger: How far is it?
Passerby: It’s not the far. You ready?
Passenger:Yes, I am.
Passerby:Ok, head north along this road. Then take a left unto the next block.
Passenger: Alright, then what?
Passerby:Once you see McDonalds turn right unto Rodger Street.
Passenger:How long do I stay on Rodger street?
Passerby:You will walk about 2 miles. Then head west on Broadway.
Passenger: Am I almost there?
Passerby:No, Go for about 4 blocks, and immediately make a right. You’ll see McDonalds on your left.
Passenger: Ok.
Passerby:Go up the street. You’ll see the police station directly across from the movie theater.
Passenger:Thank you so much.
Passerby:I am glad I was able to help. Good luck and be safe.
Passenger:Goodbye.

    2.Understanding road signs and lights

The” Y” sign is a street that you can make aleft and a right. It splits like a Y shape it’s not
really a right turn or leftturn.
    指示牌“Y”告诉我们这条路的形状像“Y”字,你可以向左转也可以向右转。

The “T” sign is a three way intersection. You caneither go left or right. In the ‘T’ intersection you can also go straightdepending of how you arrived to the ‘T’ intersection.
    指示牌“T”的标志是三路交叉口,你可以左转、右转也可以直走。
A “dead end” is not a direction terminology. It means the way you entered is the only way out. This sign isalways seen at the entrance of the road.
    “此路不通”这个标志并不是一个路标,它的含义是这条路的入口也是你唯一的出口。这个标志通常设在道路的进口。

Passenger:Excuse me, I am lost. Would you happen to know where 1234 Elm St. is?
Passerby:Yes, I do. I live on that street.
Passenger:How do I get there from here?
Passerby:Go down this road, after you pass two traffic lights turn left. You’ll come to a ‘T’ intersection.
      Passenger:Do I take a right or a left there?
Passerby:At the ‘T” intersection turn left.
      Passenger:Alright, then what?
Passerby: Walk down the road for about half a mile. You’ll go right on Rodger Street.
Passenger:How long do I stay on Rodger Street?
Passerby:Follow that road for a mile. At the ‘Y’ go to the right until you reach Elm Street.
Passenger:Once I get on Elm Street where do I go?
Passerby: Once on Elm Street, turn right. That road is a dead end. The house is at the end.
      Passenger:Thank you much.
Passerby: I am glad I was able to help. Good luck and be safe.
      Passenger:Goodbye.
