Friendly reminder that the success of Beren and Lúthien made Maedhros believe Morgoth was not unassailable, which indirectly led to the Nirnaeth Arnoediad.
Friendly reminder that as far as we know, the first house of Men that Caranthir wanted to become his allies declined his offer, and that the second and last that he recruited ended up betraying him.
Friendly reminder that Túrin assured Níniel that neither he nor she would be slain by the dragon, nor by any foe of the North.
He was right.
Friendly reminder that just when Fingolfin thought they had finally made it across the Helcaraxë and there would be no more deaths, his own youngest son was killed.
Friendly reminder that it was Túrin’s rescue of Gwindor that allowed Glaurung and the host of Angband to reach Nargothrond.
Friendly reminder that Thranduil lived in Lindon - Oropher was willing to send his son to Gil-galad. He was more willing to entrust his son to Gil-galad than to entrust his army. And died of those misplaced priorities in the Last Alliance battle…

Friendly reminder that by the time the Nirnaeth had happened, the original leaders of the Noldor who had led their people to Middle Earth were all dead, and only their heirs remained.
Friendly reminder that Ambarussa are separated. Elrond and Elros are separated. First Age twins who share a fate? Eluréd and Elurín – who froze in the forest together.
Friendly reminder that Elrond, Gil-galad and Celeborn know almost exactly what Celebrimbor went though for them – because they saw his body on Sauron’s standard.
Friendly reminder that anyone who survived the Battle of the Thousand Caves was probably killed in either the Second or Third kinslaying.
Friendly reminder that after heading into Gondolin, Turgon and Aredhel never see their father again. Except as a corpse brought by an eagle.

Friendly reminder that Androg tortured Beleg by having the elf tied up on a tree for three days without food and water. Androg also proposed to kill the elf but Turin suddenly appeared and he saved Beleg. Only to kill him later.
Friendly reminder that Fingolfin wounded Morgoth seven times during their fight. When Morgoth stepped on his neck and was crushing him, Fingolfin managed to stab his enemy’s foot with his sword. Morgoth’s wounds never healed.
(But it didn’t make Fingolfin any less dead)

I'm currently reading the silmarillions, do you know any way to read it and not be super confusedAnonymous
        1. askmiddlearth.tumblr.com has a great reader’s guide to help keep all the people and places straight. Also well tagged Q&As.
        2. Plough on through the first 2-5 chapters until the elves really arrive, that’s when it gets a bit more like conventional narrative.
        3. Screw chapter 14 seriously skip that asshole.
        4. Search “The Silmarillion for Noobs” on youtube.
        5. Make anguished posts in the Silmarillion tag every time your new favourite character dies, because it entertains us. Well, me. (✿◡‿◡)

Friendly reminder that even if Idril and Tuor found Valinor, she had likely already forfeited her immortality by marrying Tuor and they both would have died anyway
Friendly reminder that when Galadriel forced the necromancer out of Dol Guldur, she probably remembered what happened to her brother Finrod when he tried to fight him.
Friendly reminder that Gwindor thought his brother was dead. Then he saw him dragged out by Morgoth’s forces, having been horribly tortured and blinded. He had to watch as they killed him. Then of course he was captured, and was probably expecting the exact same thing to happen to him.
Friendly reminder that Turgon knew that Húrin had been let out of Angband and was trying to find Gondolin. And though he was initially unwilling to let him in, he then changed his mind. But by that time Húrin had gone.
Friendly reminder that in the council Elrond says that no one in the Fellowship should swear to follow Frodo and the Ring until the very end, because that could help their hearts to remain steadfast, but could also break them beyond repair. Maybe he was remembering a couple of people.
Friendly Reminder that Dior was only 36 when he died
Friendly reminder that Húrin and Huor were so close that Húrin was captured defending his little brother’s body. Their sons, Túrin and Tuor, passed each other on the road as strangers, and never exchanged a word.
Friendly reminder that Huor, in Nirnaeth Arnoediad, said to Turgon: “"This I say to you, lord, with the eyes of death: though we part here for ever, and I shall not look your white walls again, from you and from me a new star shall arise." Maeglin heard those words and he did not forget them.
Friendly reminder that Erendis hated and feared the sea, but still “perished in the water”.
