Thanks to everyone who came out last night to the screening of #BridegroomMovie in Chicago at the Center on Halsted. And special thanks to #Redboxfor making the event possible!
#TBT Instinct Magazine party with my talented and courageous new friend, @SteveGrandMusic. Most of you already know who Steve is, but just in case you don't, check out the music video for his song "All-American Boy" on YouTube that went viral last summer. He is one of the first openly gay country singers and although his sexuality doesn't define him or his music, he has shattered stereotypes just by being himself and by sharing his talent and music with the world. I’m thrilled to announce that we have partnered with TUGG.com in an effort to continue sharing@BridegroomMovie and to give more of you an opportunity not only to view the film, but to get more involved with your community. With any luck this partnership will help create opportunities for people to come together and continue having healthy, honest discussions about the polarizing subject of LGBTQ rights. By hosting a#BridegroomMovie #TUGG event, you will have the chance to screen the documentary at a theatre or community venue in your hometown. We are particularly excited about the fact that you can also use your screening as a fundraiser for the charity of your choice. I hope you will all take advantage of this exciting chance to see#Bridegroom and to spread its message of love, hope, and equality. For more information please visit TUGG.com/Titles/BRIDEGROOM. ***TUGG is currently only available in The United States***
The Gay and Lesbian Entertainment Critics Association (GALECA) have announced the nominees for its annual Dorian Awards (named in honor of Oscar Wilde). We are thrilled that#BridegroomMovie has been nominated for two awards: Best Documentary Feature and LGBT TV Show of the Year (for its world television premiere on OWN). We are truly honored by this recognition! :)
#TBT with my dear friend, Adrienne Marquand (@Adreeneyc) We grew up in different towns in Montana, but connected at an annual summer theatre camp. When I first moved to Los Angeles she gave me a place to stay, allowing me to get settled as I began the new chapter of my life. She's a huge supporter of me and I'm beyond grateful for her friendship.
I respect everyone's right to have their own views and beliefs, but I wish people like Utah Governor Gary R. Herbert could see that a civil union (while agreeably a step in the right direction) will never be a legal, moral, or emotional equivalent to marriage. There truly isn't a word that symbolizes love, commitment, and family more than marriage. The argument may be tired, but the facts still remain: Marriage is universally recognized and respected, while civil unions and domestic partnerships are not; Marriage offers over 1,000 additional legal protections that civil unions and domestic partnerships do not; Marriage between straight couples is recognized from state to state, but same-sex couples have to carry loads of legal documents with them when they travel, in case of emergency. Civil unions and domestic partnerships are second-class versions of marriage, and anyone who deems them "more than enough" does not acknowledge LGBTQ men and women as equal citizens. I receive hundreds of messages weekly from gay men and women who dream of getting married someday. As my friend Josh once said, "No little girl is lying in bed dreaming about wearing a beautiful white dress at her 'domestic partnership.' They dream about getting married." Committed adults who are in love and want to publicly, and more importantly legally, declare their love should be allowed to get married. My friend @ChelseaCannell put it very simply in the documentary #Bridegroom: "It's not a gay thing. It's not a straight thing. It's a human thing."#BridegroomMovie #EqualLoveEqualRights#SameLove #LoveIsLouder
