Official Magicbane Beta Thread

Hello Magicbane Players!
At 11:59PM 21/3/2014 St Petersburg we for to shut down Magicbane Server for Shadowbane and begin next phase of project. We expect process to take less than hour.
This posting is for to help with thinking of what to expect as we move into beta and to look behind at our footprints.
Project metrics
Commits to repo since project start: 1790
Commits to repo since players showed up: 408
Current number of server source lines: 88,342
Average server utilization: 50% of one cpu (10% per 100 players)
Average bandwidth utilization: 5-11Mb (1Mb per 100 players with streaming spikes)
Maximum server uptime: Just under 48 hours
Current number of sleepless nights 30+
Number of characters created: 22834

Lessons we learned so far
When players show up suddenly development plan took vacation to Turkey and never came home. Workload was no problem for first days, but soon Olga and Me are drowning in torrent of bug detail reporting. No time to post on forums. Olga saying she feels like princess locked in ivory tower.
We announce following mechanics for to help with managing changes more effective as we move forward in beta.
Magicbane Bug Vote!

Trying to pick one bug detail for to fix out of full page is hit or miss. Detection of game breaking issue is Olga looking for posting with many pages in forum? We can do better! Magicbane Bug Vote will give power to users vote bugs up to the top and make sure bug is addressed.
With server wipe we also will wipe current bug forum of posting details for fresh start.

Players in beta will have scripting command for to see what branch is running and what bugs those branches fix. Olga and Me hope for to allowing users to follow their bugs and see into process as fix moves through development process. Every day players will know what is being worked on. Olga has window in ivory tower and players can see inside too!
Hacking Reporting

Me and Olga do not have time to be server police or want to. If some guild is cheating we prefer players get together and bane them instead having to interfere. Claiming cheat and hack when losing tree is Shadowbane expected. If we chase every post no time to code!
In beta we will take stronger stance towards cheating than was necessary in alpha. If you have proof of player hacking or controlling 20 characters in form of recording send with explaining to above email and we will take action. If you discover dupe reporting email to report dupe details in private.
We also are announcing Magicbane is expanding team and looking to add two additional team members. If you feel like good fit for position send application to recruiting@magicbane.com
Quality Assurance / Community Liason
Interface with community and Me and Olga. Q/A will be responsible for monitor (not moderate) forum and listening to community. If something needs to be brought quick attention or players have concern this person will be go to guy. He is there to throw rocks at Olga's window in ivory tower.
We thought for to allow community to vote for this position every month. No way though to make sure large guilds just vote in own players every time. Unless community has better thinking will we make this applied position and change player often.
Developer
We are looking for 3rd hand to help push through beta. Position requires some or all of following:
-Experience with managed environments
-Experienced with OO (Observer, factory and visitor patterns)
-Experience with git
-Berkeley Sockets
-Gamedev experience
-PerconaDB or Mysql
-Concurrency in transaction environments
-8086 OllyDbg, Cdecl calling convention etc.
-Able to sign legal contract
-Real programmer (Can download and implement whitepaper, not a google guy)
***Jobs will not come with free items, free gold or even conc pot. Reward for hard work will be only our thanks and a Magicbane server further towards finished!
Alpha went fast how long beta will last?
That is up to magicbane players. You tell us when game is completed. Olga and Me keep working hard until you do!
