You can race downhill on really long boards or do tricks and ride vert or skate parks on smaller, more maneuverable boards. there are boards to carve like surfing or snowboarding and there are boards to ollie, flip and turn for any terrain you can find. The shorter boards in the 29” to 34” range have a shorter wheel base, making them easier to turn, but less stable for some one just starting out. The bigger boards, 35” and above, are the most stable, so they are easy to cruise on, plus their wider turning radius makes for better control at higher speeds—they just require a little bit of skill, but once you’ve gotten the feeling of shredding on these longer skateboards you’ll only want more.
