Notably, Castiel aided in stopping the Apocalypse, absorbed the souls of Purgatory to become a deity temporarily, and released the leviathan. While a deity, he killed Raphael and many warring angels in Heaven, which has caused many angels to despise him. In attempting to unite the angels in the Host of Heaven, he unwittingly helped complete a spell to cause all angels except Metatron to fall to Earth.
