Rum Tum Tugger 的歌结束时，Grizabella 首次上场了。她的衣裳褴褛，神色疲惫。Rum Tum Tugger对她威胁地直立起鬃毛，傲然地擦着她的身边下场。 

几只小猫可怜 Grizabella 的悲惨样子，想凑过去安慰她，却被年纪大的猫们拉开了。 

Demeter 走上前，仿佛要抚摸 Grizabella，可是在最后一刹那失去了勇气，悲伤地 逃开了。Grizabella 哀怨地歌声责备挡在她面前的 Munkustrap。 

Demeter 和 Bombalurina 在一旁唱出了她的身份：原来她就是当年骄傲美丽的魅美之猫 Grizabella。她在年 轻的时候就离开了猫群去看外面的世界，成为猫儿们不可饶恕的叛徒。现在她历尽艰辛，狼狈地回来时，猫儿们 仍然不肯原谅她。Grizabella 只好又哀伤地下场了。

Grizabella 下场之后，场上的气氛又欢快起来。JennyAnyDots 开始介绍她的好 朋友，神气的胖猫 Bustopher Jones。Bustopher Jones 是所有猫群的骄傲，因为他是猫里的绅士 ，不 光有身份，而且还吃遍了英国的酒店和饭馆。 

Bustopher Jones 坐下来给小猫们唱了一段歌曲，又送给了 JennyAnyDots 一 朵鲜艳的红花。 

这一场有一点过渡的性质，尤其为了冲淡 Grizabella 上场时带来的沉 重，歌曲都十分轻松，但不见得会像其他的歌那样给人留下深刻印像。也基本上没有舞蹈。Bustopher Jones 身穿黑白相间的礼服，用一只小汤匙作拐杖。后来他用汤匙作高尔夫球棒打球，十分可爱。

Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer had an unusual gift of the gab 
They were highly efficient cat burglars as well and remarkably smart at a smash and grab 
They made their home in Victoria Grove, they had no regular occupation 
They were plausible fellows who liked to engage a friendly policeman in conversation 

When the family assembled for Sunday dinner 
Their minds made up that they wouldn't get thinner on 
Argentine joint, potatoes and greens 
Then the cook would appear from behind the scenes 
And say in a voice that was broken with sorrow 
"I'm afraid you must wait and have dinner tomorrow 
The joint has gone from the oven like that!" 

And the family would say, "It's that horrible cat! 
It was Mungojerrie or Rumpleteazer!" 
And most of the time they left it at that 

Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer had a wonderful way of working together 
And some of the time you would say it was luck and some of the time you would say it was weather 
They'd/We go through the house like a hurricane and no sober person would take his oath 
Was it Mungojerrie or Rumpleteazer? Or could you have sworn that it mightn't be both? 
And when you heard a dining room smash or up from the pantry there came a loud crash 
Or down from the library came a loud ping 
From a vase that was commonly said to be Ming 
Then the family would say: "Now which was which cat? 
It was Mungoherrie and Rumpleteazer and there's nothing at all to be done about that!"

Rum Tum Tugger 也在一半的时候加入，表现出他对 Old Deuteronomy 的尊敬。（Munkustrap 对 此表现得极其感动，好像从来不敢奢望傲慢的 Rum Tum Tugger 也尊敬 Old Deuteronomy。） 

这首歌是赞美 Old Deuteronomy 一生经历的歌，表明了 Old Deuteronomy 在猫群里的身份。但除了强 调 Old Deuteronomy 的寿命之长，歌里并没有太多描述 Old Deuteronomy 业绩的段落。反复唱段都是 咏叹"是，不，喔，啊！我想我看到了 Old Deuteronomy。"歌曲结束的时候 Old Deuteronomy 上场， 所有的猫都冲上去拥抱住他，表现了对他无比的尊敬和崇拜。

这一首歌的场面很大，是《猫》全剧唯一的一次场景改换（由破烂堆转为荡漾碧波中的船只和小岛 ）。这其实是老演员 Gus 一段关于当年演出的回忆。很可惜这首歌，及后面的"比利•麦库尔的叙事诗" 都没有被《猫》的录象带收录。 

格若泰格的最后一战，讲的是海盗格若泰格（Growltiger），在海上危害四方，罪大恶极。 

可是一天他见到美丽的母猫 Griddlebone，受其迷惑，竟没能看到猫群的追杀，终于在最后一战之中落水而亡。 

在这一段里，Gus 扮演 Growltiger。（据说在舞台上，Gus 在唱完"Gus： 剧院的 猫"之后，突然挥去身上残旧破烂的老皮，摇身变成英武雄壮的大海盗 Growltiger。）Jellylorum 身着 白衣扮演 Griddlebone。其他几只公猫（通常是 Munkustrap，Skimbleshanks，Rum Tum Tugger， Mistoffelees 和 Alonzo）先是扮演被 Growltiger 袭击的商船船员，后来扮演冲上来杀害 Growltiger 的一群狸猫。 

虽然听来也许像是个坏人罪有应得的故事，可是由于 Growltiger 与 Griddlebone 对唱情歌真挚动人，而后 在 Growltiger 被人围功的时候 Griddlebone 却偷偷溜掉，Growltiger 反而变成了让人怜悯的悲剧英雄。

火车上的猫 Skimbleshanks 即使与 Old Deuteronomy 没有血缘关系，他也无疑被猫儿们看作最可爱的叔叔。他的到来，使场上充满了快乐的气氛，所有的猫儿为他唱歌伴舞，和谐欢快的场面只有 JennyAnyDots 的歌"老甘比猫"可以媲美。 

Skimbleshanks 是一只在火车上举足轻重的猫。如果没有他细心周密的监督，整个火车就无法顺利运行。Skimbleshanks 照顾着旅客、行李、车厢，甚至连车上的工人和列车长也得听他调度。在半夜里他也不会闲下来，而是在火车上下巡逻视察，因为有责任心的 Skimbleshanks 从不让事情出一点差错。 

猫群里的大猫小猫对劳苦功高的 Skimbleshanks 十分尊敬。他们用雨伞，埽笊，自行车轮和探照灯为 Skimbleshanks 装配了一辆火车，在这首歌结束的时候，大家把他像英雄一样高举起来。 这一段的舞蹈虽然不多，但是场上的活动纷繁多样，带了一点儿童剧式的灵活多变的色彩。而且这首歌的节奏十分明快，曲调流畅，是剧中较有名的曲目之一。

全场的猫儿都被这突然的变化惊呆了。在 Munkustrap 带领其他猫追赶 Macavity 的时候，两只曾经与 Macavity 相识的母猫，Demeter 和 Bombalurina，向躲在角落里的小猫们讲述 Macavity 这一只神秘的罪犯猫。 

Macavity 人称"隐藏的魔爪"，因为他虽然罪大恶极，可是从没有人抓住过他犯罪的证据。他看起来总是半睡半醒，无所事事的样子，其实那只是他在深思熟虑时的伪装。 无论他做了什么坏事，比如偷人家的牛奶，打碎暖房的玻璃，Macavity 总能抓出一两个证人证明他不在案发现场。因此就连苏格兰场也没有他的犯罪案底。 

Macavity 自在地萧遥于法外，在幕后操纵着无数恶行。Demeter 和 Bombalurina 愤怒的称他为 "犯罪界的拿破伦"。 这一段里，两只母猫载歌载舞，歌声亮丽浑厚，舞蹈柔韧夭娆，是本剧的经典曲目。 

Munkustrap 和其他的猫儿没有找到 Old Deuteronomy，失望 的回来，不想几只老鼠忽然带着 Old Deu

teronomy 出现。他们解开 Old Deuteronomy 让他回到猫群 之中。在所有的猫兴奋地拥抱 Old Deuteronomy 的时候，Demeter 却连连退缩。只有她看出场上的 Old Deuteronomy 不是本人。最后，她终于冲上前去揭开 Old Deuteronomy 的灰皮，原来皮的下藏着 的是大犯罪者 Macavity！ 

Macavity 被揭露了面目，放肆地伸出利爪，在猫群里四下抓咬，猖 狂到极点。可是在他又一次抓住 Demeter，想要截持她的时候，Munkustrap 和 Alonzo 冲上去救 下了 Demeter。 

然后，Munkustrap 和 Macavity 展开一场血淋淋的大战。最后 Munkustrap 虽然失败，但是被激怒的猫群勇敢地站起来，团团围攻 Macavity。Macavity 敌不过这么多猫，在受伤之后他抓过场边裸露的电线，使电线造成短路，全场陷入一片黑暗。Macavity 也称着黑暗逃跑了。 

黑暗中，受伤的猫儿互相安慰。

Mistoffelees 是一只有魔力的猫，要说他的魔幻法术，就连人类的魔术师也甘拜下风。他看起来小巧灵活，年轻而且有些害羞，可是他的能力不能让人小看。他能穿过最小的缝隙，也曾在帽子里变出七只小猫，他能使人在空间里跳跃，大家明明在屋里刚看见他，转眼他却在房顶上出现。 

Mistoffelees 在 Rum Tum Tugger 的歌声中从天而降。他用魔力引亮了场上的灯，使破烂堆又现光明。 

然后，他选 Cassandra 做助手，用一快红绸变回了 Old Deuteronomy。 所有的猫一起为 Old Deuteronomy 的归来和 Mistoffelees 的魔力欢呼。Mistoffelees 自己 也因为有机会为猫群做大事而高兴得连蹦带跳。 

这一首歌，在一些版本里是 Rum Tum Tugger 独唱，但也有一些版本里是 Rum Tum Tugger 和 Mistoffelees 合唱。但是舞蹈只有剧团里最优秀的舞者--Mistoffelees 独自承担。这首歌的曲调动听，重复的地方多，因而会给人留下很深的印象。
