西伯利亚虎的分布图

Recent research indicates Caspian tigers, genetically, are very close to the Siberian tiger and different from other subspecies. Meaning they would have reached the area of the Caspian Sea through western Siberia, the Altai Mountains and northern Afghanistan, before settling near the rivers east of the Caspian Sea.
Time to see what Heptner found out on the direction of movement of tigers in eastern Siberia.

eptner also made an attempt to map the distribution of tigers in the former USSR. Note those places outside the normal range where evidence of tigers has been found not so long ago. Thse indicate tigers indeed travelled westward from Siberia and reached Lake Bajkal and places well west of this lake a long time ago.
