Case 14-0488, arrived December 13:
A Marietta resident discovered this adult Great Horned Owl with its talons locked around the legs of an adult Red-tailed Hawk early this morning. Once a net was dropped over the Great Horned Owl, he opened his talons and the Red-tail escaped before it could be captured. An exam of the owl revealed soft tissue trauma and pain in both wings, so he is being treated with anti-inflammatory and pain medications. The homeowner is keeping an eye out for the Red-tail.
This is breeding season for Great Horned Owls, as there is a very good chance that the hawk flew too close to the owl's nest, so he defended his territory. Photo by the homeowner.@永远的巴萨查

t bad about chasing it off temporarily but was extremely interesting to confirm it had just killed a Kori Bustard (we later found out that someone else saw the interaction). After we took the pic, the eagle returned straight to the kill and continued to feed on it for 2 days! This is the second time I have heard of Kori Bustard forming part of a Martial menu but the first time to witness it!
