On the evening show of February 10, 2015, Fabian performed her new single "Voce" for the Italian market.[6] It is to be included in a new greatest hits, Essential Lara Fabian, specifically released in the country by Warner Italy.[7]
On the evening of February 12, 2015, a visibly moved Fabian sang on the same stage "Sto male",[8] Ornella Vanoni's Italian version[9] of her already popularized rendition of "Je Suis Malade". Being it a sub-competition for the Sanremo's cover versions night, she eventually lost to Nek and his "Se telefonando" formerly popularized by Mina.
On the evening of February 13 she performed once more "Voce",[10] before losing the entire competition.[11] She was already pending since the premiere.[12] The day after, February 14, on her official Facebook page, a new post was entered displaying an article from the local San Remo Festival publication (written by Erika Cannoletta) which goes by the title "Farewell to strangers in Sanremo". It basically reads how a lack of meritocracy and possibly some obscure political issues in the backstage could be the reasons that have led to the elimination of the artist. It further reads that all this can be harmful to the attempt of attracting foreign artists to the Festival itself.[13] Previously this very entry, the italian audience and press were generally rather cold towards Fabian, especially in relation to her fame in the country. In a fairly scathing and controversial article titled "Sanremo 2015, who is Lara Fabian? The international star whom nobody heard of",[14] writer and music critic Michele Monina (of Il Fatto Quotidiano) ultimately questioned about the actual fame, career and quality of the singer, generating a heated debate on its lower comment section.
On February 15 she performed one last time at Domenica In, Rai 1, finally receiving an unexpected standing ovation (with much to the singer surprise)[1]. That evening she posted a trilingual message on her personal Facebook page, addressing to some possible issues occurred in the backstage over all her italian experience the past week [2]. It reads:
EN: Dear All, The dust fell off and this morning I woke up again in front of this beautiful landscape... this splendid country, among these wonderful people... What happens in Sanremo stays in Sanremo ... and doesn’t apply to anything else. When we take part in such events, we must accept the rules of a competition, and congratulate the winner respectfully remembering that public choice is the only that matters. Well done il Volo, you are wonderful! For me it doesn’t change anything, nor my background, or the love I feel for Italy, and even less the desire I have to comeback more than ever...To share my music, sing on stage and mix our passions... I'm half Italian, this blood runs in my veins, colors my soul and my life. It hurts me to hear some comments... Comments that create amalgam and hasty categorizations... We must separate things, nothing is fully black or white. NOWHERE on earth... The world is running (slowly) towards new horizons... Best ones, I hope. And music is one of his great hopes...
