It's a wrap! Last night, I hit up the official cast and crew wrap party at Les Deux for Anna Faris' comedy I Know What Boys Like, which she's producing along with Adam Sandler. I was there not as "Ben Lyons from E!" but rather as "Ben Lyons the Actorl" who played the role of Ryan the Limbo Dude. Real career stretch, right?
Now I've really gone Hollywood, acting in my first big movie. I have no grand aspirations to be an actor anytime soon, or ever for that matter. I just wanted to do it once for the goof and for a story to tell.
So, here's the story.
I did several set visits, doing interviews in the Lyons Den for E! News and Daily 10. Anna and I struck up a cool friendship, and I'd already known Emma Stone from Superbad (love that girl). Rounding out the cast is Rumer Willis, Katharine McPhee and Colin Hanks.
While in Toronto, I got the call from Sony Pictures that Allen Covert, a producer on the film (and star of numerous Sandler comedies), wrote a little part for me—and I would be shooting the day I got back. Sweet!
So, picture a tiki-themed frat party. The centerpiece is a giant mountain with a slide that leads down to a strawberry-daiquiri-filled giant hot tub. I'm wearing a Hawaiian shirt, holding a drink with a giant umbrella and a limbo pole. Oh, the joys of acting...
The movie should hit theaters next summer, and perhaps do for Anna's career what Legally Blonde did for Reese: make her a household name. She plays a Playboy Bunny who is kicked out of the Mansion and must seek refuge living in a sorority filled with misfits. Anna developed the project herself and, from what I've seen, delivers a hilarious performance.
The girls developed friendships on the set, enjoying the ridiculous costumes and downtime, playing Brick Breaker and singing '80s tunes. For a kid who grew up in the business, Willis is pretty down-to-earth and has a bright future. Hope she can keep her head on straight.
So, I caught a little taste of the life of an actor, and I gotta say, as much fun as I had on this, I just don't think I have anything left to prove. I'd like to thank the cast and crew of I Know What Boys Like, to Anna and Allen, to the members of the Academy and to my parents. Thanks for always believing in me...
