experienced players or lesser known guys like Sagna popping up 

(how many of those are there in the world?) and a big praise 

for Wenger? 


Or how many feel that with all the evidence that we have seen 

in successive transfer windows that we are royally 'effed up. 

That only the players we already have will be promoted from 

within and we will fall even further behind? Does the leaving 

of Flamster on a free leave you a tad depressed on seeing that 

it will cut into our budget (as little as that is) to replace 

him (it has to - 0 in, X out = loss).

My trust in wenger is no longer unwavering.He seems far more flawed than ever.I used to view him as almost inhuman in terms of management.Absolutely untouchable. 

Im beggining to believe that we may flourish in the future under another manager, who benefits from the structure wenger put in place, but competes strongly in the transfer market.Though it may be at board level stopping wenger doing so. 

I feel like something is going hugely wrong with us.It feels like despite being one of europes big clubs, we conduct ourselves as one of the smallest of those in so many ways. 


Im worried.I wasnt last pre-season.But this season is a big worry to me.

I'm excited. I'm sad to lose Flamini because I'm a big fan of 

players like that who always give 100% but I'm not devastated 

and he's not irreplaceable. 


As long as we keep the rest of the first team I really think 

we'll be very strong next season. 


I'm also confident, for the first time in years that Wenger 

will significantly strengthen this summer.

David Dein said if we moved to the Emirates to early we would 

not be able to remain competitive and it looks like his 

prediction is coming true. 



Wenger is no longer untouchable in fact , far from it. However 

if you want someone who can keep us in the top 4 with a minimum 

budget then Wenger is your man.

But first, lock down Gilberto to a further year and clear off 

dead wood like Senderos & Hoyte. 


As for purchases: 

1. Buy a world class Goal Keeper first. 

2. Buy a CM that can play with Cesc & compete with all the up & 

commers (Including Gilberto). 

3. Buy a CB that will challenge Gallas & Touré. 

4. Buy a an attacking MF that can own the LM spot and signal an 

end to Eboue & Diaby on the wings. 

5.Buy a striker. This is a necessity, not a luxury as some 

people think. 

Finalise all purchases before Euro 08 and let gooner fans enjoy 

the summer.

Yes he is. 

1) Wenger wont buy someone who plays like Hleb because there is 

no one who plays like Hleb. Thus we'd have to change our 

current style of play and it will take time for the team to 

adjust to it. 

2) The player Wenger buys as a replacement will probably take 

time to adapt to the League and our style of play. 

3) Wenger might not buy a player to replace him, considering 

that we have the ever so talented Eboue and Diaby in the 

sidelines. 

4) Wenger wont buy more then two players. One would be 

Flamini's replacement and the other Hleb's replacement, that 

leaves us where we are now just without two of our best 

players. 

5) Hleb's replacement could turn out to be a flop.

It'd be a problem I agree but to say 3 years makes no sense. 

It'd be a short term problem but Hlebs not a key player and 

he's flawed in many, many ways. I'd rather he stayed for now though.

1) Maybe we need someone who doesn't play like Hleb, ie a 

winger with more end product. 

2) Yeah but 3 years?

4) I think you're wrong there, we'll sign more than 2 players 

this summer.

Hleb leaving is an instant return to 05/06 rebuilding season. 2 

years+ of adapting and building will be rendered pointless in 

an instant. Rosicky is never fit meaning we are already in need 

of a LM. To avoid playing both Eboue & Diaby in a 4-5-1 the 

team is in need of 2. Now add he departure of Hleb and we are 

staring at 3 players for 5 man midfield or 2 for a 4 man 

midfield. 


Wenger will never buy that many players. Even if he does get 1 

or 2 wingers no one knows how long the adaptation period will 

be and there's no guarantee he will be as direct as Bobby or as 

creative as Hleb. Goal scoring midfielders are rare and they 

cost ....more than Arsène is willing to pay.

Every contact I have known has indicated that they believe 

Arsène will finally spend big this summer. 



Whether that means 1 or 2 players on giant transfers (which 

does not happen at Arsenal) or 5 to 6 (with a mix of first team 

& youngsters) I don't know. 



I think Arsène has finally bitten the bullet and accepted that 

certain players will never make it if we are to win trophies. 


That's why i think it is not unrealistic to expect 4-6 joining. 

Time will tell but all that being said there is zero chance of 

the board sacking Arsène regardless of the outcome for next 

season.

I'm hoping to say that the budget will determine if it is 

exciting or troubled times ahead. In saying that I'm hoping 

that AW will spend if he can = exciting. If he can't / won't 

then = trouble. 



If we bring in a number of players most supporters have faith 

in AW's ability to get quality. If we can see that we know he 

means business so we'll be better able to take to inevitable 

disruption to the team & period of adjustment, provided we 

finish the season strongly for a change.

We've a solid base now as long as the rest of the key players 

stick around. We know that quality players will have to be 

brought in because not only are we lacking in squad depth but 

also missing vital players in and around the pitch that would 

make us even stronger. Take for example the left and right 

wing, we've had passengers in those positions too often so any 

change would most likely be a good one. Flamini is most likely 

to be replaced, Denilson is talented but he's still a bit short 

of becoming a regular and doesnt yet have the kind of work 

ethic and aggression of Flamini. 


But most importantly Wenger will know that he has to deliver 

this year after going so long without winning a trophy, the 

pressure will be on him and he has to make some big decisions. 

He knows we dont have a strong enough squad to challenge 

throughout the season, key positions have to be addressed and 

I'm sure he will.

It's all down to Wenger this summer. He must keep the side 

together. Flamini leaving wasn't really required, he's had a 

great season and proved to be one of our key players. To me, 

when he went off injured against Liverpool at Anfield, we lost 

the game. So yes, a big loss in him leaving. We don't want any 

more key players to leave. Quite frankly I'm tired of going two 

steps back and one foot forward. It just doesn't work like 

that. You build on what you had built at that present moment. 

It's like building a house. Imagine laying 5 bricks then taking 

two away and repeating that process laying five, taking two 

away. The house ain't gonna get built is it. Our house was 

firmly built when we had the Invincible Run, then bricks were 

taken away. It ain't been built back up to how it should be 

methinks. 


Wenger simply HAS to keep some unity within the camp, hang on 

to Hleb, Fabregas, etc. And he MUST sign some new blood. We 

have some quite brilliant players in our ranks but if we don't 

bring in players good or even better than them it just ain't 

gonna win us anything. Of course we have some excellent 

youngsters coming through but they will not win us the title. 

We need experience and players wanting to win. 


We require another striker. For certain. Simply because of 

Eduardo's injury. We won't be good enough with just Ade, RVP & 

Bendtner. 


Another defensive mid to replace Flamini. Diarra would've been 

nice eh? 


Centre half to give better back up than that of Senderos. 

Goalkeeper to replace Lehmann. 

So that's 4. We could probably do with another attacking, goal-

scoring mid as it'd be stupid to rely on Rosicky cause he's 

turned out to be too injury prone. 5 players. 25million? Piece-

a-piss 


IN summary.... it's exciting times for sure but worrying at the 

same time. I have faith that Wenger will fill the gaps and get 

the team challenging on all fronts next season but with the 

limited amount of money at his disposal, will it be even 

possible?
