We can see from the picture that a professor, a stick of chalk in one hand, says to a student that if he can figure out the words in a text message, he can figure out the words in Chaucer; the student staring at his professor, a book in hands, is lost in thought.
The picture shows that people prefer to read text messages instead of classics due to lack of patience. In spite of lack of literary value, text messages are attractive in contents and can keep people closely in touch with the social trend. As a result, many people become indulged in text messages, showing no interest in classics, and even literary study is affected.
In my opinion, it is very necessary that we read and study classics. For one thing, classics have great literary value and reflect the truth of life while text messages are only part of fast food culture; for another, selection of words and writing techniques in classics are worth learning. All in all, people should spend more time reading classics instead of wasting time on text messages
