Its original Japanese name is Fuji or Noda Fuji.
It was imported into Europe in 1830.
The leaves are composed of 11/19 leaflets and it can reach up to 20 meters high.
The branches twist in a clockwise sense.
Violet/blue or violet/pink with hull mallow flowers, sweetly scented.
Long, clustered bunches 30/50 cm in length, slightly less than that of the W. sinensis.
It begins to bloom during the 3rd or 4th year.

It has even managed to get its name in the Guinness book of records, one plant is noted to have grown to180 cm in length. It looks perfect on vine-trellises and pergolas where the flowers can dangle freely.Flowers light violet with a purple, stain like mark, lightly scented flowers, open up progressively in a downward direction starting from the top of the long, clustered bunches until finally reaching the bottom, the bunches are 60/120 cm in length. It has a medium precocious blossoming. It begins to bloom after the 2nd or 3rd year. The foliage is covered with fur like hairs.
