    Ladies 3000m Team Relay
Following the Ladies’ 3000m Relay Final A that took place in the Gangneung Ice Arena on Tuesday February 21, 2018, the ISU has decided to release the images that were reviewed by the referees and resulted in the penalties for China and Canada. No further comment will be given on this matter.
During China’s final relay exchange, the activate Chinese skater drastically changed lane from the outside to the inside, impeding the active Korean skater.

The rules for the relay stipulate that all skaters in the relay team can get a penalty. In the case of Canada, a non-competing skater on the ice crossed over and impeded the action at the finish lane.

Green arrow indicates the competing skater. Red arrow indicates a non-competing skater interfering with the race.

I wanted to provide some clarity for the confused viewers out there (like me). For all of the questions and inquiries about “why” the women’s China team was given a penalty in the 3000m@relay final: we were told that this is the same angle that was used by the referees to make the decision. Upon the exchange there was momentum directly into the other skater from South, Korea. While I do agree that this was pretty light and without heavy contact, the ref decided it was just enough to make the call. None of us in the booth thought it would result in a penalty. Short Track is highly unpredictable and we all have been on both sides of that dish. Sometimes served hot, sometimes cold. Painful if the call is made against you, but joy if it’s swayed your way. Life is also unpredictable, how we perceive and react to these decisions are what is most important. Life lessons even at the pinnacle of Olympic achievement - learn, grow, and walk away with your head held very high. Pride :-) A note - the Chinese team skated nearly flawlessly with an incredible strategy. Meticulously skating at just the right speed so that there wasn’t too much space in between each skater/team gave them the controlling advantage to set the pace and maintain the lead. Had they just went to the lead and full pedal to the metal, they would have been surpassed by the South Korean team much earlier. I suspect that it was Li Yan their head coach who came up with the brilliant strategy. It nearly worked!
Choi-Min Jeong is so good...her final 3 laps of the women’s 1,500m were faster than the men’s final 3laps of the 1000m!!! Wow....What a race and what a sport!!! The best is yet to come tomorrow night here at the @ olympic @ pyeongchang2018 Olympic Winter Games
Thank you to all the passionate fans who have voiced their opinions. We listen to all of you and strive to make the sport better and better!
Congratulations to everyone in this race and the Dutch in the B-final for shredding a new World/Olympic Record!!
