Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? University students should be required to take history courses no matter what field they study.

In a modern society, it is widely-accepted that university students should be more versatile. To adapt the increasing complex society, university students have to get the knowledge outside their profession. Under this circumstance, some people come out with the idea that university students no matter what field they study, are required to take history courses. However, many other people think that is totally unnecessary for their own reason. Before rendering my opinion, I think it is necessary to take a glance at the arguments of both sides.

There is a profound proverb which goes that: Today is yesterday’s pupil. This proverb surely awakes many people to the importance of history lessons. I have to say that, history courses are truly important. But is it important enough to be the required lessons for all the university students? My answer is “no”.

To begin with, there is only a small portion which is useful for university students in their career among the mass of history courses. We can take students who study economics as an illustration. To be a successful businessman in the future, they ought to study a number of cases, successful and failure, in the business circle as mirrors. But do you think it is essential for them to know how general relativity was put forward? Do you think it is essential for them to know the exact number of emperors in China? We can not claim this is a waste of time to study those histories but it can only be an interest not a task.

What is more, today is an era of cooperation. It is ridiculous for a single person to be familiar with all the fields including their histories. Every one has his own strengthen field. The only thing he should do is searching for people who study the field beyond his ken and then cooperate with him. For example, if someone who studies marketing wants to establish a company, he does not need to know all the history of management, personnel, accounting and so on. Knowing the history of marketing well is enough for him to be a successful businessman.

Ultimately, people who think history courses are required for all university students must ignore one important fact that the history of one field is involved in the main course of that field. We can also take economics course for example. At least in China, the official economics textbook contain many successful and failure cases in the past. So it is unnecessary for students to study history course purposely. All the histories he ought to know have been already studied in his main courses.

Consequently, I strongly do not vote for the view that university students are required to take history courses no matter what field they study. Here is my three reasons. First, not all the history courses are useful for the students in their career. Second, people can cooperate with each other to fill up the deficiency. Third, the knowledge of the useful history has been already learned during students’ main course studying. Taking above mentioned into consideration, I do believe you will draw the same conclusion as me.

no matter what field they study (是不是应该in...field啊？)
This proverb surely awakes many people to the importance of history lessons （不是awake something to？）
Every one has his own strengthen field（strengthen 能做adj?）
