看原著向同人文时碰到好多次福尔摩斯称呼华生为my boy,my dear boy，这两个词在同人文里大多被直译为“我的男孩”，“我亲爱的男孩”，回忆了一下阅读原作的时候，没有怎么留下这方面的印象。
于是忍不住手动搜索了一下英文原版中这个称呼出现的原文，统计后比照了一下群众出版社的翻译——七次"my boy"分别被译成“我的伙计”“我的朋友”x3“伙计”“老弟”“老兄”，而"my dear boy"则被译为“老兄”，难怪我对这个颇为亲昵的称呼全无记忆。
这个称呼确实不太好翻译，在现代语义下似乎也要比My friend/fellow（我的朋友）要更亲密一些，直译为“我的男孩”“我亲爱的男孩”又亲密得有点过于直白（gay里gay气）。同时，"my boy"在维多利亚时代语境的用法我不甚了解，我好奇是否常用于当时朋友间的互相招呼，于是再次搜索了一下全书，发现福尔摩斯只叫过华生My boy，而My dear boy全书中只出现了四次，一次是福尔摩斯叫华生，一次是福的哥哥麦克罗夫特这么叫他，另外两次就是案件中父亲提及儿子。所以我猜，当时这个词应该也只用于关系非常近的朋友之间？

看上去心情还不错，连着叫了两次my boy。
而且"Yes, my boy, these were all done prematurely before my biographer had come to glorify me."一句中译又把my biographer漏掉了，福尔摩斯常常把华生叫做“我的传记作者”，迈克罗夫特也曾对华生说：“由于你为歇洛克作传，他才得以名扬四海”（I hear of Sherlock everywhere since you became his chronicler.）。直译大概是：“是的，我的男孩，这些都是在我的传记作者特来赞颂我之前的记述。”
"These are the records of your early work, then?" I asked."I have often wished that I had notes of those cases."
"Yes,my boy, these were all done prematurely before my biographer had come to glorify me."
