Soap Opera Digest: Where did you grow up?
Scott Evans: I grew up in Sudbury, Massachusetts, which is a small town a half hour outside of Boston. Unless you're from there or a town touching it, you wouldn't really know it's there. It's a quiet little town. I graduated high school a semester early and moved here in January 2002, before I knew I got into NYU [Tisch School of the Arts, where he got his degree in drama]. I was here for a couple years, moved to L.A. for a little bit, came back, finished school finally and now I have my degree and my mother's happy!
Digest: Why did you graduate high school early?
Evans: I kinda wanted to just get to New York. I was so ready. I loved high school — I had such great friends and everything — but I went and did summer stock theater the summer before my senior year and met all these people who were actors in New York. My sister was like, "Well, I'm moving back to New York in January, why don't you graduate high school early and come with?" Basically, instead of, "Mom, can I?" it was, "Mom, this is what I'm doing." So I did it and my friends weren't happy, but I went back and I graduated and I still went to prom.
Digest: When did you know you wanted to be an actor?
Evans: I don't know if I ever really knew I wanted to be an actor. I hated homework more than anything. It was this weird thing when school finished at 3 p.m. I'd check out. I couldn't do homework. So my grades in high school were never good. My teachers would always call my parents and be like, "Listen, he gets 100s on tests, but then his homework grade is like a 0!" So I knew in order to get into a good school, there would have to be some sort of audition to get in because my grades weren't good. But once I got into NYU for it, I was like, "You know what? I kinda like this. Maybe I could make a career out of it." It's in the blood. Every single person in my family has done plays at some point.
