SCS Student Leadership Council Application
1. Explain why you should be chosen to lead students in this capacity.
As a rather shy and timid person, participating in the Student Leadership Council is the first step I am taking toward developing better leadership, sociability, and most crucial of all: utilization of my compassion. I am highly aware of the gap between the international and non-international students that paralyzed what was supposed to be a melting pot. So, I desire to take the initiative to serve in the Student Leadership Council to bridge that. Under my leadership, I am sure students will balance academics and enthusiasm, further improving the educational ambiance at our school. In harmonizing different cultural perspectives and accomplishing the need of my schoolmates, I especially enjoy being passionate in helping others, and thus seeing the passion of others. I am definitely willing to devote my eagerness and capability to ensuring the intellectual and cultural vibrancy as I head to senior year.
2. State your two greatest strengths and weaknesses
I am an attentive and versatile person. I am capable of dividing my time and attention to several tasks simultaneously and still endeavor to ace each of them. The most recent example is, I actually had a hard time picking a position for SLC, because on the other hand, I believe my artistic ability can also contribute to the school. I also realize that International Director may be a fit for me, since my friendly attitude can surely bring harmony easily. As for the other strength, my willingness to help other people has also encouraged me to pull off this application. I understand that only with practical action and determination can problems be solved easily and rapidly. One of my weaknesses is that I tend to get too prideful. Many of my friends look up to me and see me as a “role model”, and this has partially leaded to a bad consequence: I sometimes became too arrogant to accept people's advice, and I occasionally mock people for their deficiencies. This is a disadvantage that I am striving hard to mend. I am also benevolent to the extent that people often speak well of me, but they do not actually listen to me while I was speaking. This means I may not work that efficiently when I am lack of people’s help. This means I strongly need to improve my leadership skills. I hope that SLC will not only allow me to show my merits but also help me to get rid of my defects.
3.Why did you choose this position?
I realized that with classes inundated with diligent, greedy overachievers, the current school counselors might not be able to provide their versatility to their utmost extent. So, I desire to take the mission to be a Peer Counselor to ameliorate that loss. As a prominent “overachiever” recognized by my class, I have already started doing college research and gathering quite a few of relevant information. By further cooperating with school counselors, I will also acquire first-hand skills and knowledge

that can be significant to the overall success of my classmates. Moreover, I have realized that although the current Peer Counselors of SLC productively work to inform students, they largely ignore the importance of communication, a much more direct and effective way of assistance. I do not think this is helpful enough for those who are thirsty for these information, and I hope I can help to improve it. I hope to share the information I have by talking to my classmates directly, thus informing them of the basic guidelines, of testing and college application, as well as the list of tasks they need to do to reach their desired post-high-school life. I will also ask my present-day senior friends to share their experiences. Only in this way, I believe, will my class continue to shine with their burst of intellectual and spiritual, and achieve their best in applying and being accepted to colleges.
    4. How would you lead you fellow classmates practically?
I am now an active member of Math Club and Chinese Culture Club, and I will definitely continue participating in these clubs for next school year. I will also work with International Directors, Club Directors as well as other departments of the Student Government to ensure the academic excellence and cultural smoothness of the school. Furthermore, having harmonious relationships with the current seniors, I believe I can also apply the advantage of this connection to fulfilling my task and responsibility as a peer counselor. As the saying that knowledge is power goes, I am bound to fuel my peers with my strong academic motivation and achievement. After all, benefiting the community that nourished and encouraged me is my foremost reason to strive so hard for success.
5.List and explain all extra-curricular activities and church-related activities in which you will be involved next school year.
I don't attend any specific church regularly – I have too many invitations from my friends that I in fact responded to their sincerity by going to a myriad of different churches. Within all those churches I frequently go to, I usually and I believe I will keep on socializing with other teenagers, and I often help with some simple tasks such as typing and organizing information. As for extracurricular activities, I will continue to be active in Math Club and Chinese Culture Club to offer help and suggestion. I will also try to join our school worship team as a keyboardist and possibly a technician. As an alternative, I will continue to lead the band to improve and perform, which performed at brushstrokes and lyrics, so we can officially get on the stage and convey our passion.

    6. Describe your relationship with Christ. (以下内容均为胡扯,请无视)
I am a believer of Jesus, though I cannot call myself a Christian yet. I admire Jesus's commitment to sacrifice his life for the forgiveness and wellbeing of us, God's children. I am fond of the way sciences approach problems and inquiries with rationality, but this will never affect my respect to Jesus Christ. As a matter of fact, the Bible class in Southlands helps me believe that no matter what, it is necessary to respect Christ as well as other people, and He will be gracious and help me in all I need. In the end, I hope to integrate my knowledge of sciences and Christianity to become a versatile person that can share my love and give people a hand whenever they are in need.
