SCS Student Leadership Council Application
1. Explain why you should be chosen to lead students in this capacity.
As a rather shy and timid person, participating in the Student Leadership Council is the first step I am taking toward developing better leadership, sociability, and most crucial of all: utilization of my compassion. I am highly aware of the gap between the international and non-international students that paralyzed what was supposed to be a melting pot. So, I desire to take the initiative to serve in the Student Leadership Council to bridge that. Under my leadership, I am sure students will balance academics and enthusiasm, further improving the educational ambiance at our school. In harmonizing different cultural perspectives and accomplishing the need of my schoolmates, I especially enjoy being passionate in helping others, and thus seeing the passion of others. I am definitely willing to devote my eagerness and capability to ensuring the intellectual and cultural vibrancy as I head to senior year.
2. State your two greatest strengths and weaknesses
I am an attentive and versatile person. I am capable of dividing my time and attention to several tasks simultaneously and still endeavor to ace each of them. The most recent example is, I actually had a hard time picking a position for SLC, because on the other hand, I believe my artistic ability can also contribute to the school. I also realize that International Director may be a fit for me, since my friendly attitude can surely bring harmony easily. As for the other strength, my willingness to help other people has also encouraged me to pull off this application. I understand that only with practical action and determination can problems be solved easily and rapidly. One of my weaknesses is that I tend to get too prideful. Many of my friends look up to me and see me as a “role model”, and this has partially leaded to a bad consequence: I sometimes became too arrogant to accept people's advice, and I occasionally mock people for their deficiencies. This is a disadvantage that I am striving hard to mend. I am also benevolent to the extent that people often speak well of me, but they do not actually listen to me while I was speaking. This means I may not work that efficiently when I am lack of people’s help. This means I strongly need to improve my leadership skills. I hope that SLC will not only allow me to show my merits but also help me to get rid of my defects.
3.Why did you choose this position?
I realized that with classes inundated with diligent, greedy overachievers, the current school counselors might not be able to provide their versatility to their utmost extent. So, I desire to take the mission to be a Peer Counselor to ameliorate that loss. As a prominent “overachiever” recognized by my class, I have already started doing college research and gathering quite a few of relevant information. By further cooperating with school counselors, I will also acquire first-hand skills and knowledge
