Wilson, a left-sided central defender, was the youth team captain at Rangers and is tipped to have a big future at Ibrox.[1] He has been called into the first team squad on various occasions and attracted interest from Premier League sides including Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal.[2]
Wilson had been an unused substitute on several occasions during the latter part of the 2008–09 season, including the 2009 Scottish Cup Final against Falkirk.[3] He made his professional debut for Rangers against Dundee in the League Cup, playing the full 90 minutes of a 3–1 win on 27 October 2009.[4] Just over a week later, he became the youngest Rangers player to play in the UEFA Champions League by starting a 1–1 draw against Unirea Urziceni on 4 November, aged &0000000000000017.00000017 years, &0000000000000312.000000312 days.[5] Wilson scored his first goal for Rangers in a 4–1 away victory against Hearts at Tynecastle on 27 March 2010.[6]
Towards the end of the 2009-10 season Wilson was nominated by his fellow professionals in Scotland for the young player of the year award. In April 2010 Wilson was voted as Rangers young player of the year by the clubs supporters.[7]
