俄罗斯一偏僻的村庄的人们都是靠打鱼为生，其中有五人历经多次危险便结拜为异姓兄弟，发誓要同生共死。
      一天，五人一起去打鱼。因为是冬天，他们便在冰上凿洞，然后再洞口钓鱼。
     不知过了多久，老大忽然发现：凿的冰裂了，他们正在浮冰上。于是大家都慌了，老四便说：“我们一起大喊，叫村里的人来救我们。”于是大家大喊，除了老五还是默默的在钓鱼。
     喊了很久，也没有人来。老四便说：“没什么好怕的，大不了大家一起死。”然后看着还在钓鱼的老五叹到：“还是五弟好啊，聋了什么也听不见，只知道专心钓鱼。”
     过了会，浮冰飘到了海上。这时来了艘油轮，大家便向上求救，可船上的人问他们要美元，老四气急败坏的说：“有点功德心好不？”可船上的人却说，公德心值几个钱。这时老大拿出美元大喊，我有我有。于是他被救上了船。老四大骂他是叛徒。眼看船要开走了，老二大喊到，我有金子，救救我吧。于是船上的人把他救了上去。老四又大骂叛徒。过了会船上传来老二的惨叫，然后老二被扔下了水里。老四很是鄙夷的说，那假的去骗人活该。然后又对老三说，走了两人我们到安全了。老三恐慌的脸上没有任何表情。
     浮冰慢慢的飘到了公海，忽然只见老三迅速的爬到了一个公海的标志上，老四看到标志上只能有一人，便又破口大骂老四。浮冰继续向前飘着...
     过了会来了艘英国商船，老四大喊求救。可船上的人要他当他们的仆人，而且他们要去做生意，要三年才再来俄罗斯，老四二话没说的答应了。上船时看着还在专心钓鱼的老五说：“大难临头各自飞吧。”
     浮冰还在飘，这时老五钓上了一条鱼，正准备高兴的向大家说时，发现只有自己一个人了，而且还在一块浮冰上，于是老五从坐在屁股上的箱子里拿出一个橡皮圈，鼓足腮帮子的吹气，慢慢的，一个橡皮艇当生了......
