November is the eleventh month of the year in the Gregorian calendar. It comes after October and before December. In November, days become shorter and nights become longer as winter approaches in the Northern Hemisphere. The name November comes from Latin novem meaning "nine" because it was originally the ninth month of the Roman calendar. This was changed to eleven when January and February were added to the calendar. In some countries, November is a special month for remembrance of those who have died in wars or other conflicts. People often wear a poppy flower on their lapel or clothing in remembrance of those who served and died in war.
