In 2008 Bruce entered the Orange unsignedAct competition. During the show, Bo performed a number of self-penned tracks and finished as a finalist. The release was produced by Tom Marsh, who co-wrote three of the songs and played a number of instruments.[13] Sales of the EP began to increase after Bruce became the runner-up on The Voice UK and the independently released EP peaked at number two on the iTunes album charts on 4 June 2012.[2]Search The Night features five of Bruce's self-penned tracks: Behind The Gates, Waking, Fighting Arizona, Crossfire and Black Ice. 'Black Ice' had previously featured as Bo's audition track for Orange unsignedAct and 'Fighting Arizona' during the live rounds of the show.[14] Music videos were made for two tracks on the EP: 'Fighting Arizona', released in August 2010, shortly before the release of the EP and 'Black Ice', released in September 2011.The EP received largely positive reviews from listeners, being rated at 4.5 out of 5 stars by iTunes customers within the UK, based on 423 reviews.[10] The release was also rated 5 out of 5 stars by iTunes Australia customers,[7] 5.0 out of 5 by eMusic customers[8] 4.9 out of 5 stars by Amazon.co.uk customers,[10] and was awarded 4 out of 5 stars by Amazon.com customers.[11]
