第十六章 水源
神老人就如他所说的一样，“一条河可能会死，但是另一条河也会生成。我也为特殊情况做好了准备。”他凝视着那闪闪发光的泛着涟漪的水池，自己低吟。“对，这一定会做得好；我自有办法。”
「The wizened old deity beamed at Chihiro as he explained, "A river may die, but a river may also be born. I have a few set aside for special occasions." He gazed into the rippling pool of shining water, humming to himself. "Yes, this one should do nicely; I will make a present of it."」
“您真是慷慨至极了！”树神还没等千寻回答就插话道。“难道不是吗，孩子？”
“我很抱歉，但是… 您给我的是什么呢？”她不解地问道。
“一股新源，”河神喜上眉梢地发言。“这是一股被封住的可以成为河源的泉水。我将它赠予—并且我将命名它的荣耀—也给予了你，龙之心。”
“这就意味着白龙可以成为它的守护者了？”
“你理解地十分正确！”老者赞许地说道。“这股泉水刚好就在琥珀川曾经的河道的旁边等待。这时你召唤河，它的水位就会上涨；给它一个名字，这样它就会成为你的龙的所需了。将水倒在他的干燥的石头上，它们就会互相维持。” 「"The spring waits just beyond the path Kohaku once followed. Call to the river, and it will rise; give it a name, and it shall become what your dragon needs. Encourage the waters to pour onto his dry stones, and they will sustain one another."」
“这就是全部了？”千寻谨慎地问道。
河神张开口哈哈大笑，“你已经完成了许多凡人称之为不可能的事情。”
惊喜地眨了眨眼，年轻女人用手轻轻裹住了树神的松果，微笑道。“我想我应该… 感谢您们两个。”
他对千寻的感谢摆了摆手。“当那条龙的欢喜结束后，我们会被更多次地被报答。”
「He waved off her gratitude. "When the dragon's joy is complete, we shall be repaid many times over."」

第十六章 水源

第十七章 一块干渴的土地
千寻顺着灌木丛下的阴影爬下去，踢踏着支撑着她的背部，发出疲倦的哼哼。 「Chihiro found a scrap of shadow under a tufty shrub and crawled into it, flopping onto her back with a weary groan.」 “这儿很热，”她抱怨道，用脏兮兮的手把杂乱地头发推了推。
“休息吧，直到太阳减少它散发出的热能，”树神建议道。
将曲肘抬至她的眼睛，年轻女人喃喃道，“唔… 我有些渴。”
“你会在封印接除的一瞬间得到所有你想要的水。”
“嗯… 我正尝试。”
“对的，你确实是，”树神耐心地应允道。 「"Yes, you are," Kodama allowed with less asperity.」 “你需要在黄昏之前完成沟渠，但我觉得在河生成之前你至少要等到黎明。”
轻柔的鼾声是千寻仅有的回答。

第二天早晨，千寻坐在满是尘土的河岸上，从未想过神明的礼物会很简单地被打开。这两天，她已经用扁平的石头和锋利的树枝通过干燥的地面挖出了一条窄渠。“你觉得这足够吗？”
“为了引方向的话，确实足够了，”树神权威地声明。“让河流流过这里吧。” 「"To point the way, yes," Kodama declared with authority. "Let the river carve its own path from here on."」
“乐意至极。”
## SPAN ##
调整并握在一根粗枝上，千寻掀开了压着她泉水的石头并侧身去看。什么事也没有发生。 「Adjusting her grip on a stout branch, Chihiro drove the end between the stones that covered her spring and leaned. Nothing budged.」 “解除封印并赐予名字，”她严肃地说。“并不像听起来的那么简单。”
“嗯… 非常正确。为什么你要为了白先生这样做呢？ 「Why do you go so far for Haku-sama?」 ”树神疑问道。
“他是我的好朋友。白龙救了我的命。”
“噢？我听起来可不是这样，”树神反驳道。“你拯救了他，并且是足以撼动他的禁锢的爱。”
“我以前是个孩子，并且我以孩子的方式来爱他… 全心全意地，”千寻实事求是地讲。
“所以这是纯爱了？”树神甜蜜地询问道。
“就是这样。”
树神欢快地笑道。“有些人会把它叫做‘真爱’。”

很长的一段时间过去了，劳动的女人苦涩地哭了，千寻在大石头与小石子打了一条条缝隙。 「With a long, agonized cry like a woman in labor, Chihiro fought to widen the crevice between a hefty boulder and its setting of smaller stones.」 对于那近乎永恒的一瞬间，什么事也没有发生，但随着她之后的撬动，木头开始呻吟，森林的静谧被
一声雷鸣般的巨响所打破。她失去平衡，向后倒去。噢！快要落泪的时候，她把手腕压在眼睛上并等待着树神鄙视地评论。 「Ow! Close to tears, she pressed the heels of her hands against her eyes and waited for Kodama's snide remark.」
取而代之的是，她的双腿接触到了一股寒流。迅速地没过了她的双脚，千寻呆呆地看着她创建的水沟里缓缓流动的水。“这真的可以成为一条河流吗？”
树神发出她以忍耐很久的一声响亮又清晰的叹息。“孩子，你回来几步或许会更明智些。”
忽然，大地轰轰地震动，千寻又差点失足。急流冲开石头，石头翻滚着，泉眼也变得更大了。地下水在阳光下激增，像重新寻到了自由一样欢快地冒着。 「Underground water eagerly surged into the sunshine, babbling with joy over its newfound freedom.」 喘息着，她转过来看需要选择的路；让她高兴的是，水也被倾入她挖的沟渠内。 「Gasping, she whirled to see what path it would choose; to her delight, the water slopped into the trench she'd painstakingly dug.」 毫无疑问这些沟渠将流出的水与等待中的河床串起来了。“成功了！”她欣喜若狂。
进入齐膝的水中， 「Dropping to her knees in the midst of the flow,」 千寻舀水洗脸，并用水润湿她的喉咙。清澈。甜蜜。美好！
树神渐急的声音盖过水流声。 「Kodama's voice rose urgently over the noisy splashing.」 “名字，傻女孩！给这条河一个名字！”
被上升地冲动所包围， 「Surrounded by the rising tumult, 」 千寻张开双臂，她的心灵牢牢固定在她要救的人身上。“琥珀！”她自信地叫道，高兴地完成了河流之神最后的指示。“你就是琥珀川！”
