Himeka
With a dream she has had since her teens, a Quebecois bought a ticket, came to Japan and realized her dreams in half a year. Her name is HIMEKA. She made her debut as a professional singer for anime songs or AniSon singer in Japan. Japanese audiences were attracted by her beautiful voice, pretty figure, and strong passion towards anime that nobody can beat. In May 2009, she released a debut single “Asu eno kizuna (Ties to tomorrow)” (Theme song of “Valkyria Chronicles.”) This time, she returned to Canada to participate in an anime event, OtakuThon as a guest, held in Montreal in August.
HIMEKA is from Laval, Quebec. She has loved TV Anime since she was very young. She was strongly attracted to Japanese Anime when she saw “Sailor Moon” at the age of 15. Because she loved singing, she practiced songs by reading lyric cards for anime Songs. She also loved to participate in events related to Anime very much. The dream she was keeping in her heart was to become an AniSon Singer. When she turned 27 years old, she realized it was the last chance to make it come true, so she went to Japan with a Working Holiday Visa. After arriving in Japan, she studied Japanese language furiously. While working at a French restaurant as a dishwasher, she applied to auditions. However, there are many auditions with the age limit of less than 25 years old. It was very difficult for her to find qualified applications.
But she finally found an audition without age limitation and a debut was promised if she won the victory, which was an unexpected piece of luck for her. That was “All Japan AniSon Grand Prix.” “Many people will participate and it would be impossible for me to win as a foreigner,” she remembers telling herself. However, her high-pitched voice, professional singing skill and perfect Japanese pronunciation were breathtaking for the audience. As the result, she won thegrand prix. “It was really miracle, I thought,” HIMEKA says without hiding her excitement.
This time, she returned to Canada for a short period – just to perform at OtakuThon. However, she met with her family and relatives in between her tight schedule. “I am proud of such a nice event, OtakuThon held in my hometown since it accepts not only Anime Songs but also a variety of Japanese culture such as J-Pops,” so she continues. Since she has come back to her hometown, she looks relaxed and enjoys the event. When she returns to Japan, busy life is waiting for her. The first album will be released in the next spring.
