      读写任务(1):(寓言)
      阅读下面的短文,然后按照要求写一篇150词左右的英语短文。
      [阅读材料]
Once upon a time some tiny frogs held a competition. The first to reach thetop of a very high tower would be the winner.
A big crowd gathered around the tower to see the race and cheer them on.
The race began. No one in the crowd really believed that any of the tinyfrogs would reach the top of tower. “They will never get to the top! They willnever succeed!” someone said.
One by one, the tiny frogs began to collapse (退下).
The crowd kept shouting, “It is too difficult! No frog will make it!”
More tiny frogs got tired and gave up, but one continued climbing, higherand higher. This one wouldn’t give up.
In the end, he was the only one left—the only one to get to the top. Theother frogs naturally wanted to know: How did the frog make it?
One frog stepped forward to ask the winner. It turned out:… that the winnerwas deaf.
He had won because he was able to keep his own mind. He was able to keeptrying. He couldn’t hear criticism; neither could he hear praise.

In addition to teachinghere, I also teach at a smaller high school 17 miles down the freeway fromwhere I live. One day a few weeks ago I was driving to that school when my carbroke down just after I exited the freeway. I was only about a quarter of amile away from the school so I grabbed my books, and started walking."
"As soon as I gotthere I called a repairman to meet me at my car after class. One of mycolleagues asked me what had happened. 'This is my lucky day,' I replied, smiling."
"Your car breaksdown and today is your lucky day?' She was puzzled. 'What do you mean?'"
“I live 17 miles fromhere.' I replied. “My car could have broken down anywhere along the freeway. Itdidn't. Instead, it broke down in the perfect place: off the freeway, withinwalking distance of here. I'm still able to teach my class, and I've been ableto arrange for the repairman to meet me after class. If my car was meant tobreak down today, it couldn't have been arranged in a more convenientfashion."

      Deardiary,
Today in class the teacher told us a story, in which he was optimisticand maintained a positive attitude when his car broke down on his way toschool.
I appreciate the teacher’s optimistic attitude todifficulty, which allowed him to stay positive to perform his job well. If hedidn’t do so, this one problem would have turned into many other problems.
The story reminded me of waiting in line with Li Hua atthe amusement park last summer. Therewere so many people waiting in line for boating and I felt upset at wasting somuch time queuing. But Li Hua said with a smile, “We haven’t seen each otherfor ages. I have so many wonderful things to tell you. Let’s share thisprecious chance to chat with each other.” It dawned on me that waiting in linewas not a problem but an opportunity.
Now I’m determined to always be optimistic when I meetproblems. Rather than think of study as a pressure, I should see it as anopportunity to learn more about the world.

Three brothers, who workedfor the same company , received different wages due to their differentattitudes towards their work, which shows right attitude is of great help toone’s life.
Their different attitudestowards their work result in their different wages. From the story I canconclude that those who take positive attitude towards work will be rewarded.
Different attitudes lead todifferent results. Take Xiao Hua as an example. They are both my classmates. Not only does he put his heart into study but he is also helpful both toteachers and students. So he has become a top student in our class, even in thegrade. With his diligence and concentration, he is bound to succeed in enteringhis ideal university. However, Xiao Li never cares about his study because heis addicted to playing games, he turns a deaf ear to the teachers’ advice. As aresult, he falls far behind others in his study.
In my opinion, attitude iseverything. No matter what you do, you must do it well even if you may fail manytimes. Sooner or later you will be rewarded for your positive attitude towardsyour work or life.

Many years ago, when I was fresh out of school andworking in Denver, I was driving to my parents' home in Missouri for Christmas.I stopped at a gas station about 50 miles from Oklahoma City, where I was planningto stop and visit a friend. While I was standing in line at the cash register(收款台), I said hello to an older couple who were also payingfor gas.
I took off,but had gone only a few miles when black smoke poured from the back of my car.I stopped and wondered what I should do. A car stopped behind me. It was thecouple I had spoken to at the gas station. They said they would take me to myfriend's. We chatted on the way into the city, and when I got out of the car,the husband gave me his business card.
I wrote himand his wife a thank-you note for helping me. Soon afterward, I received aChristmas present from them. Their note that came with it said that helping mehad made their holidays meaningful.
Years later,I drove to a meeting in a nearby town in the morning. In late afternoon Ireturned to my car and found that I'd left the lights on all day, and thebattery was dead. Then I noticed that the Friendly Ford dealership - a shopselling cars - was right next door. I walked over and found two salesmen in theshowroom.
"Justhow friendly is Friendly Ford?" I asked and explained my trouble. Theyquickly drove a pickup truck to my car and started it. They would accept nopayment, so when I got home, I wrote them a note to say thanks. I received aletter back from one of the salesmen. No one had ever taken the time to writehim and say thank you, and it meant a lot, he said.
"Thank you" - two powerful words. They're easy to say and mean so much.

In thispassage, the writer got morehelp and pleasure after he expressed thanks to others for their help, and herealized“thankyou” are easy to say and meanso much.
I have asimilar experience. Once when I was about to go home after school, it wasraining so heavily that I had to wait for the rain to stop. But after half anhour it was still raining. Seeing this, the guard at the gate offered to lendme his umbrella. I accepted at once. Thanks to his help, I got home on timewithout getting wet. The next morning, when I returned the umbrella to theguard, I said thank you to him and left him a note expressing my gratitudesincerely. To my surprise, he said no one had ever written him to say thankyou, and it meant a lot to him.
So in myopinion, saying thank you to others is not only easy but also meaningful to theperson who says it and the receiver!

With the development of economy, people tend to pursue high qualityliving conditions. Most of the parents try their best to offer their childrencomfortable circumstances, but they seldom have time to Stay with theirchildren. In my opinion, no matter how busy they are, they should make the bestum of their time to stay with their children.
Every time when parents take them to theamusement park, help them to prepare their birthday parties, applaud for themwhen they are compedng in the sports meeting, the time they spend with childrenwill become treasure in their memories.
Children need the direction from their parents. There are some wrongbehaviors in our society' such as dishonesty, violence and so on. Children haveweak resistance in defending this negative influuence. La this case, parents'instructions seem to be very important to children's growth. Parents should sirdown smd talk with them about what they should do and should not do.
I do not deny that there are some disadvantages in spending too ranchtime with children. Some parents restrict their children, and give them littlefreedom to develop their interests. Therefore, I emphasize that parents shouldeducate and instruct their children appropriately in their spare time apartflora their busy' work.

Parents Should Be Responsible ForChildren's Behaviors
The passage mainly tells us that parents play an important part inchildren's growth, suggesting that no matter how busy parents are, they shouldspend more time staying with their children and give proper instructions.
We know it is important for children todevelop good habits. So it is disappointing and sad to see same children aroundus showing bad habits. As far as I am concerned, :parents should be responsiblefor helping children developing good habits. The reasons are as follows: first, it is commonly held that parentsare the first teacher of their children. The children adopt many ways andthoughts of their parents as they are growing. Second, parents' duties include not only providing food andclothing, but also knowledge and common sense required to go on well insociety.
Therefore, I hope parents can spend more time staying with theirchildren, giving proper guidance to their children. Meanwhile, parents shouldmind their words and acts, setting a good example for their children.

The way people hold the belief that afun-filled, pain-free lifestyle equals happiness actually reduces their chancesof ever obtaining real happiness. If fun and pleasure are equal to happiness, then pain must beequal to unhappiness. But in fact, the opposite is true:more often than not things that lead to happiness contain some pain.
As a result, many people avoid the very attempts that are the source of truehappiness. They fear the pain inevitably (不可避免地) brought by such things as marriage, raisingchildren, professional achievement, religiouscommitment, self-improvement.
Ask a bachelor why he resists marriageeven though he finds dating to be less and less satisfying. If he is honest,he will tell you thathe is afraid of making a commitment, for commitment isin fact quite painful. The single life is filled with fun, adventure andexcitement.Marriage has such moments, but they are notits most distinguishing features.
Couples, with infant children, are lucky to get a whole night’s sleep of athree-day vacation. We don’t know any parent who would choose the word fun todescribe raising children. But couples that decide not to have children everknow the joys of watching a child grow up or playing with a grandchild.
Understanding and accepting that truehappiness has nothing to do with fun is one of the most liberatingrealizations. It liberates time: now we can devote more hours to activitiesthat can really increase our happiness. It liberates money: buying that new caror those fancy clothes to increase our happiness now seems pointless. And itliberates us from envy: we now understand that all those who always have somuch fun actually may not be happy at all.
              The PossibleVersion:
A fun-filled,pain-free lifestyle equaling happiness actually reduces their chances of everobtaining real happiness. As a result, many people avoidthe very attempts that are the source of true happiness. And the real happiness always contains some pain .In the other hand, true happiness has nothing to do with fun. All those who always have so muchfun actually may not be happy at all.
I have abitter experience. When I was a child, I lived a poor life, and I had a happyand meaningful life in my childhood. And my parents were always respecting eachother. And now we have some money, and our life has improved a lot. To tell thetruth, it is a good thing. Unfortunately, My father always goes out and takespart in the gambling activities. And my mother sometimes quarrels with myfather. I am extremely unhappy about it. I think money doesn’t equal happiness. And pain-free lifestyle also doesn’t equal happiness. The real happiness isthat everyone loves each other, and does everything useful for our society. Most of my classmates support me. But some of them think money is everything. In my opinion, we can’t do things without money. But money can’t take the placeof everything, such as your life, your time and your happiness.

I took a trip to a big lake in Indonesiawith my family two years ago. It was really a huge lake with beautiful sceneryall around. People were amazed by the endless view in front of our eyes. Lateron, unlike other girls, I volunteered to go water-skiing alone. I put on thelife jacket, got on the motorboat immediately and started my engine as soon aspossible.
The lake seemed broad and endless. I wasso thrilled(激动) to enjoy my trip among the mountains and waters that I sped mymotorboat. Then, after some time, I found myself in the middle of the endlesslake. A sudden fear came around me. I didn’t know where I was or even how far Ihad gone from the shore. What was worse, it began to rain and it became verycold and foggy. I rode everywhere but couldn’t find my way back. It was uselessfor me to cry or shout for help. I was so terrified that I began to think aboutall kinds of horrible things. After floating on the water helplessly andhopelessly for a long time, suddenly I heard someone calling my name. Soon, abig steamboat sailed to me and they pulled me up to the deck and asked me if Iwas hurt. I couldn’t say a word but cried out in my father’s arms.

For example, in aclass of 15-year-olds, some could be starting university learning while otherswere still learning to read and write. They will learn in their own time, attheir own speed and in their own environment. At home or at school, they willfollow their learning programmes by looking at online libraries and watchinglessons by world-class teachers and subject experts. Instead of going on fieldtrips, students will use virtual reality. If they don’t understand something, they can ask other students—take part in virtual communities with learners withsimilar needs—or e-mail .their teachers. Helicopter parents (过度溺爱孩子的父母)pay closeattention to everything, and overmanage their child's life. Some make suretheir child succeeds in every way. Others hurry to prevent harm, instead ofletting their children learn from their mistakes.
Like a helicopter that hovers, parents by the same name are alwayswithin reach, even when their children demand a bit more breathing room. Theythink they're helping their children, but experts believe they could be causingmore harm than good.
Are you in constant contact with your child? Cell phones have led tofrequent communication between parents and children. If you call your childevery morning to make sure he's getting to class on time, take a step back.
Do you try and make all your child's academic decisions for him? If youare choosing their courses and career path, you're not letting them decide howto live their own lives. Giving advice is OK, but give them some space to maketheir own decisions.
Do you get anxious if your child doesn't succeed? Helicopter parents base their own self-worth on theirchild's success, and that can create problems for everyone. If your child failsa project or has relationship troubles in college, don't take it personally. You've done the best you can, and now the rest is up to them.

Thisarticle points out the common phenomenon of parents over-managing their children'slife. It gives us a vivid picture of what are called helicopter parents. Thearticle is very critical of parents who take this role.
I must admit that my parents love me very much, eventhough they sometimes criticize me. Last Monday, I had wanted to chat with myAmerican friend online. However, they didn’t allow me to use the computerbecause they don’t like me surfing the Internet frequently, or chatting alonewith foreigners. Although they deeply care for me, it makes me unhappy thatthey often look through my personal things. Also, if I watch TV too much, theycomplain about my habits.

The passage arguesthat people who lack determination leave today’s work for tomorrow and theyachieve little success by showing us the example that without strong will Johnfailed to quit smoking.
In my opinion ,we can’t leave today’swork for tomorrow, because for different days we have different things to do.So if we fail to make up our mind to complete today’s work and leave it fortomorrow, when we’ll have some other work, we`ll gradually pile up too manythings and will never get them done. Still more, only the persons withoutdetermination and will-power will find all kinds of excuses for the things theyshould have done today. That John found excuses for leaving quitting smokingfor tomorrow and couldn’t make it in the passage is a good lesson for us. The Importance of a GoodEducation
Getting a good education may be the mostimportant price you can pay, because, perhaps more than anything else, what youdo with that huge gray material between your ears will determine your future. These words actually describe millions of people worldwide who choose to limittheir potential ability by not widening their education.
A person much more likely to have betterjob offers, ,more successful career, and a higher yearly salary with a bettereducation. This, in turn. would allow for much better life style. For example, compare two people. The first person is a high school dropout(退学学生). The second has a law degree. The high school dropout will befortunate to get a job in food services, making less than twenty thousanddollars a year, barely surviving each week. To contrast this , the person withthe law degree will certainly have a successful career as a lawyer, making over$ 70,000 annually. The lawyer will, of course , have a very wealthy lifestyle.Statistics show that high school dropouts make 42% less money than collegegraduates.
Our generation will become the doctors, lawyers, teachers and leaders of tomorrow. To do this successfully, a higher level ofeducation is very important! A higher education will mean a better life style,a better ability to adjust to new technologies, and a various life. Our worldcannot afford any unused potential.
We must crave learning. This, in turn, will pay for not only our future but also will help to insure success for thosewho follow.
