【1】We just stood and stared at each other in silence.
Never before had he gotten so close to me,so close I could feel the heat coming off of his body.The way he looked down at me--the way his eyes shined,and the way his hair was always in his face--it always makes me smile.His beauty is a gift.
His story is a tragedy.
The next thing I knew I was on the ground spitting blood and screaming his name,listening for any sign that he was close by.Then I heard his voice;calm and unwavering,like the surface of an undisturbed lake."It's okay,my dear,"He whispered."It's all going to be okay."
But I wasn't okay;there was a pool of blood on the floor beneath me,and the tears were coming back and burning the backs of my eyes.I stopped spitting.The tears slid down my cheeks and into the blood,mixing instantly.He was still right there next to me,holding me,telling me it was alright...Then I fell back in his arms.
I woke in the abandoned shaft he called 'home'.He was standing over me,looking down at me nervously.He smiled when I opened my eyes.And I could tell from the stains on his face and the color of his cheeks that he'd been crying.And he'd been crying a lot.I was able to crack a smile at him too,but it hurt so much just to try.Everything was numb.I tried to move,and the greatest of pains shot up through my arm.He put his hands on me and he whispered,"Don't try to stand.It will only make it worse."I ignored and tried as hard as I possibly could,but it just turned me into goo.My bones would not let me stand,would not let me move.I tried to reach up to kiss him,and doing that hurt,too.He bent over me and kissed me for the longest of time.Just being there,with his lips pressed against mine,the bloody gauze on my head,the pitchforks in my legs,the fact that I may never feel a bone in my body again.
Trying to say 'I love you' was hard.
Then I went cold.

【3】 I woke when he shook me."Get up,sweetheart,"he said."Get up."I turned over to see his face,pure and sweet as candy,half-covered with shaving cream,and full of love.He had a toothbrush in his mouth and his shirt over his shoulder."I need to get you home,"he said."Notch is somewhere looking for me,and I want you safe."I was going to pull the blankets off and stand up,but he stopped me."Get dressed,"he said."I took them off because I thought you'd feel uncomfortable sleeping in them."He gave me my clothes that were strewn over the edge of the bed.I took them shyly and stood up.I kept the blanket wrapped around my naked body.He laughed."Don't feel embarrassed,"he turned away from me."Like I haven't seen you in your undies before."
I hesitated,then flushed.When has he seen me in my undies?I dropped the blanket and dressed myself,glancing up every few seconds to make sure he wasn't looking at me.He took my hand and dragged me out and up cave steps,into the early morning light.
We ran.

【4】 He stopped in front of my home.I couldn't go in.I needed him."Don't leave me."I said.He put his arms around me and curled his fingers through my hair.He held me so tight and so close,as if the world was ending."I have to,my dear,"he said."I have to."He cupped my face in his hands and kissed me hard on the lips.Tears slid down my face and transferred to his.That would be our last kiss for a long time.We held it for what seemed like an eternity.He got a quick squeeze at my tushie,then pushed me to go inside.He blew me a kiss and waved through the window,then ran off into the thick brush.
That was the last I saw if him for 4 years.
